The Madera County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services is placing three County Emergency Plans out for Public Comment. The three plans are described as follows: Emergency Operations Plan: This plan is a framework document which outlines how the County will respond to an emergency. The EOP sets guidelines to manage a disaster in an effective, efficient, and timely manner. The EOP typically calls for the establishment of the Incident Command System (ICS) at the location of occurrence and activation of the Emergency Operations Center. An emergency operations plan is activated on an as-needed basis and is designed to be used for all types of emergencies. Continuity of Operations: Continuity of Operations (COOP) is an effort within county agencies to ensure that Primary Mission Essential Functions (PMEFs) continue to be performed during a wide range of emergencies, including localized acts of nature, accidents and technological or attack-related emergencies. Community Wildfire Protection Plan: The Community Wildfire Protection Plan is a document that provides a strategy for Wildfire mitigation with in the wildfire prone areas of Madera County. This document talks about County response to a wildfires and methods to make the community more wildfire aware. ***Road Closure*** *Update, 11:30am* ALL ROADS ARE NOW OPEN Original Post: Due to high winds, numerous fallen trees have forced a closure of the following roads in the Bass Lake area: Road 222 in Bass Lake from the Road 432 intersection to the area of Road 221 south of the community of Wishon Road 426 from Road 222 to Road 223 (Also known as the Forks cutoff road). Road 274 from Road 225 to Road 434 County Roads crews will be clearing the trees as soon as it is safe to do so. The public is requested to avoid driving in areas bordered by stands of dead trees during this wind event.

Felony Arrest for Commercial Burglary in Oakhurst On October 6, 2018 at around 5:25am, Madera County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service in the 49000 block of Golden Oak Loop regarding an activated alarm at a business. Sergeant Larry Rich and Deputy Miguel Soto, Deputy Paul Chetwood, Deputy Jared Holladay, Corporal Drew Kirchert with K-9 partner Arco arrived at the scene and established a perimeter around the property after observing activity at both the front and back doors. Deputies gave commands for several minutes, but the subject(s) refused to exit the building. Corporal Kirchert and partner Arco entered and searched the building along with Sergeant Dan Kerber, Deputy Ryan Videgan, and Deputy Chetwood. K-9 Arco ultimately located a subject hiding in the attic. The suspect, later identified as Isaac Lewis, had buried himself underneath the insulation in an attempt to hide. Arco apprehended Lewis until he could be taken into custody. Isaac Lewis, a 24 year old Oakhurst resident, was transported and booked in at the Madera County Department of Corrections without incident on felony charges of commercial burglary, and misdemeanor charges of obstructing/resisting a peace officer.

UPDATE: MISSING ADULT LOCATED 56 year-old Chris Wayne Costa was located deceased by Madera County Sheriff’s Deputies. His family members have been notified. We thank the community for their assistance and support. Our thoughts are with Chris’ family and friends during this difficult time. (Original post 9/18/18 •• MISSING ADULT •• The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a missing adult. 56 year-old Chris Wayne Costa was last heard from on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. Costa’s vehicle was located in rural Madera County on 9/13/18, and he was entered as a Missing Person on 9/15/18 per his family’s request. Chris is a 56 year old white male adult, with brown hair and brown eyes, 5’10” tall, and around 150 pounds. His clothing and possible whereabouts are unknown. The Sheriff’s Office is canceling the pre-evacuation advisory for Road 620 from Road 628 to Old Yosemite Road. Information from the National Weather Service show the threat of flash flood and debris flow has ended for areas around the Oak Fire. Light Rain fall is being forecasted overnight.
