MARINA POLICE DEPARTMENT WELCOMES ITS NEWEST POLICE OFFICER!!! The Marina Police Department is proud to welcome our newest Police Officer to our organization and to our community. Congratulations to Officer Burwell who was sworn in on October 25th, 2018.

The Marina Police Department lobby will be open this Saturday October 27th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM for unused and expired prescription medication safe disposal drop off. This is part of the DEA National Take Back Initiative. If you are unable to make it during this event, the Marina Police Department has a prescription drug disposal drop box in the lobby that is available during regular business hours.

"The Honor Our Fallen 5K/10K Walk & Run" The Wounded Warrior Project is a charity and veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, services and events for wounded veterans of the military actions following September 11, 2001. The Honor Our Fallen 5K/10K Walk & Run is a tribute to our Nation's fallen heroes established by a Monterey County Gold Star Mother in 2013 who was passionate about bringing awareness to our members of the Armed Forces who lost their lives while serving our country. Today Marina Officer Barocio, a Marine Veteran, ran the Wounded Warrior race. Please joins us in thanking Officer Barocio for his service and for his participation in this event.

Marina Police thanks all that responded via message and phone calls to help identify the person that took money that had been left behind at a WalMart register. The individual was very cooperative and has returned the money to their rightful owner.

CANCEL MISSING PERSON - SAFELY LOCATED John Makarevich was located after a citizen called in concerned about a male walking at the north end of Del Monte Boulevard. John is safe and back at home with his family. Thank you Marina for your help!

MISSING AT RISK ADULT - SAFELY LOCATED On 10/10/18 at approximately 5PM, John Makarevich (61 years old) went for his daily walk from his residence located on the 3100 block of Crescent Avenue in the City of Marina. John is known to take daily walks, but this is the first time that he did not return home. John suffers from Alzheimer's and has difficulty communicating/talking. John was last seen wearing a red windbreaker, blue jeans, and black loafers. John is known to visit Starbucks, Target and Walmart in nearby areas/cities. PILOT WALKS AWAY FROM AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT AT MARINA AIRPORT - On 10/10/18, about 10:32 AM, Marina Police Department and Marina Fire Department were dispatched to a report of an aircraft that had crashed at the Marina Municipal Airport. Upon arrival, the aircraft shown in the images below, was located on its top. The unidentified pilot was able to walk away from the incident with minor injuries. He was treated at the scene. The Marina Airport was closed to all aviation traffic while this incident was investigated by the FAA and NTSB. Normal airport operations resumed at about 1:00 PM. ar

Our Brothers and Sisters from Marina Fire Department would like to invite you out to their annual Fire Prevention Open House. This event will take place at the Marina Fire Station, 208 Palm Avenue, on October 9th from 5pm - 8pm in the evening. Come on over, bring the kids and have some great family fun!

This past Saturday our Marina Police Cadets attended the Silicon Valley-Monterey Bay Council Annual Explorer recognition banquet. We are very proud to announce that 5 Marina Police Cadets received the President’s Volunteer Service Award. This is a prestigious national award in recognition of volunteer commitment. This award is given by the President of the United Stated and honors individuals who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service over the course of 12 months. The recipients were Joseph Denney, Jasmine Vasquez, Kevin Cortopassi, Xavier Alexander and Mariam Hassan. Our Cadet program received the most Service awards out of all participating cadet programs. In addition, each Cadet program had to make their own table centerpiece for the event and the Marina Police Cadet program won “Best Centerpiece”. Congratulations to all Marina Police Cadets for making this department and community proud! Keep up the good work.

Today is National Coffee With a Cop Day. Marina Police Officers braved the rain and met with many people who came by Marina Donuts and Bagels this morning to say hello and enjoy some free donuts. Marina Police thanks everyone that came out this morning and spent a little time getting to know some of your police officers.

On 09/26/2018 at about 7:20 pn, a Hispanic male adult wearing an all white collared shirt, light colored pants, white shoes, and a gold chain walked into Kohls located at 111 General Stillwell Road in Marina and left without paying for some merchandise. The male was last seen leaving the scene with a female adult in a black Chevrolet Cruise with "Greenfield" dealership paper plates. The Marina Police Department invites the community to come join us Wednesday October 3rd, 2018 for National Coffee with a Cop Day. Marina Officers will be at Marina Donuts and Bagels located at 266 Reservation Road #H from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM. Officers will be on hand to discuss neighborhood issues, community events, safety tips and whatever may be on your mind. We will be giving out free donuts (while supplies last, if you can wrestle them out of the officers hands). We look forward to seeing you!

MARINA POLICE SEEK COMMUNITY'S ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING AN ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT. On 08/25/18 at approximately 0435 hours, an armed robbery occurred at the 7-Eleven store located at 320 Reservation Road in the City of Marina. The male suspect entered the business and brandished a silver semi-auto handgun at the employee and demanded money. The suspect fled the store after obtaining the money. The suspect was seen leaving in a tan/beige GMC Sierra crew cab pick-up (mid 2000’s model) and fled the area eastbound on Reservation Road. The vehicle has visible damage to the right front passenger door. The suspect was described as a White or Hispanic male adult, about 5’ 10’’ tall and medium build. The suspect was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, black jacket, a baseball cap, blue jeans, and black shoes. The male was wearing a black skeleton bandana over his face. Further Investigation revealed that the same suspect may be related to incidents that occurred in Hollister and San Juan Bautista. An unclear image of the vehicle license plate was captured and is shown below. NO LEFT TURN ALLOWED Marina Police remind locals and commuters that there is no left turn allowed from Westbound Imjin Parkway to Southbound 3rd Avenue into The Dunes on Monterey Bay neighborhood from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM Monday through Friday. A citation for this violation carries a minimum fine of $238.00 and will also count as 1 point on your DMV driving record. Please plan your route accordingly.

TRAFFIC ALERT - On Saturday September 1st, 2018, westbound Reservation Road will be closed between California Avenue and Del Monte Blvd. due to the annual Labor Day Parade. The road closure will last from approximately 10:45 AM to about 1:00 PM. People can expect traffic delays if driving through the area. Detours will be in place. Access to any residences located north of Reservation Road will only be available through Beach Road off of Del Monte Blvd. Vehicle access to businesses and residences located directly off of Reservation Road in the area of the closure will not be allowed during the parade for the safety of the participants. The Marina Police Department asks that you please plan accordingly.
