*You can run, but you can’t hide. Last night Officer Medrano was on patrol with the Live PD crew when he saw Jose Torres (21), a known gang member. Officer Medrano observed Torres committing a traffic violation and attempted a traffic stop. Torres immediately fled, leading officers on a vehicle pursuit running red lights and eventually getting onto 101 at speeds up to 80 mph. In the interests of community safety, officers cancelled the vehicle pursuit, but the chase was not over. The investigation continued and today, Saturday, officers of the Violence Suppression Task Force and Patrol, tracked Torres down, surrounded him, and arrested him at a business on the 600 block of East Alisal Street. Torres was booked into County Jail on charges of evading arrest, traffic violations, and probation violation.

Salinas Violence Suppression Task Force nets six arrests The Salinas Violence Suppression Task Force conducted a parole operation with USMS ,HSI, State Parole and CDCR. The sweep was mainly aimed at gang members in our county. A total of six gang members were arrested for violation of parole and booked into Monterey County Jail. Other operations of the Salinas Violence Suppression Task Force are currently under way.

Oath of Office Ceremony Please join us as we welcome six new Salinas PD officers with an Oath of Office ceremony at the City Hall Rotunda 200 Lincoln Ave. on Thursday October 25, 2018 at 2pm. Police officer recruits Jennifer Bontrager, Francisco DeLeon, Dionna Lucas, Maria Martinez and Russell Speirs graduated the police academy at Monterey Peninsula College. Brittney Long an academy graduate will also be sworn in. Public is cordially invited to attend.

Chief Frese' and School Resource Officers Richard Lopez and Lino Sanchez presented in front of the city council on the impact the School Resource Program has had on the many students in the Santa Rita Union School District this past year. Excellent presentation! Many accomplishments in building positive relationships with the students, staff and community.

Gil Basketball Academy(GBA), Salinas PD and Partners for Peace-Step-Up Mentoring program hosted a great community event yesterday at "the House of Thrills" Alisal High. SPD officers played a friendly game of basketball with GBA players and local youth. Interaction with players, parents, children of all ages was special. McGruff the Crime dog was also in attendance!

Negligent Discharge of Firearm, Possession of Meth, Warrant

The Salinas Police Community Academy is in progress and recently covered "officer safety" with scenarios that included traffic stops and domestic violence incidents.

Violence Suppression Unit Task Force conducts sweeps and arrests 10 people The Salinas Police Department Violence Suppression Unit Task Force, USMS, HSI, CHP, State Parole and Probation conducted arrest warrants and surveillance operations in Salinas and Monterey County. Ten subjects were arrested including a subject who committed two armed robberies in Salinas on Sunday. The operation is on-going and we anticipate additional arrests. The Salinas Police Department would like to thank our federal and state partners for their assistance. A HUGE thank goes to our community for their continuous support.

School Resource Officers meeting with community members In addition to the great work they do at the schools, School Resource Officers Richard Lopez, and Lino Sanchez enjoy interacting with the community and sharing with community members their achievements in keeping our schools safe.

We've been working hard to address the issue of abandoned vehicles around the City of Salinas. On the latest episode of Salinas NOW, Sergeant Gray shares how the SalinasConnect app has helped us become even more efficient at dealing with this problem.

Salinas PD officers out with the community at the Hebbron Heights Fall Festival over the weekend.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation on 200 block of Sun Way just prior to 5AM this morning. A person was located at that location along with a spent shell casing. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had indeed fired a handgun and he was arrested. Narcotics, ammunition and a firearm were hidden in the area and recovered. The suspect was booked into Monterey County Jail for a variety of firearm and drug related charges. No victims or damage related to the discharge of the firearm were located.

Violence Suppression Unit Task Force arrests three for drug possession and warrants Members of the Salinas Violence Suppression Unit Task Force were conducting a high visibility enforcement details when they came across two known gang members who, when they saw the officers, discarded an extended magazine under a nearby tent. Both were detained while a third subject exited the same tent. All 3 had outstanding warrants. Officers also located an 8 ball of meth, 25 individually packaged gram bindles of meth, a scale, and 30 half gram bindles of heroin. All three were booked into Monterey County Jail.

Officer Carlos Rios and his K-9 partner Keno graduated K-9 patrol school today. They are looking forward to working together to serve and protect the citizens of Salinas! Congratulations to them both!

Officers responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at Main St. and W. Alisal St. Officers located an injured pedestrian lying in the roadway. CPR was initiated immediately and the adult female was transported to Natividad Medical Center but died as a result of her injuries in the collision. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation at 1:43 am in the area of Sharon Dr and Fairview Ave. They did not locate any victims. Approximately 15 minutes later, a pregnant, female victim arrived at Natividad Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her buttock. The injuries are not life-threatening and the victim is expected to recover. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Salinas PD at 831-758-7321.
