#Rehabilitation at CDCR takes a variety of forms, and cognitive behavioral treatment is one of the cornerstones.
Today, Folsom State Prison held ceremonies for 134 graduates of these courses, which target focus on anger management, substance abuse, family relations and criminal thinking.
Offenders work to break violent patterns and substance abuse issues. Rich Toso (right), who started as an officer and now is a correctional counselor at Folsom, said it’s rewarding steering inmates into positive programming. And for the offenders, the graduation ceremonies can be an important milestone.
"They may never have graduated from high school or been part of something before,” Toso said.
Howard Walker (left) who graduated from the criminal thinking course, said the course has helped change his life: “I’m learning from my mistakes and gaining awareness.”
