Bambi artist Tyrus Wong, featured in today’s Google Doodle, had his first tenuous steps in America at what is now Angel Island State Park. The US Immigration Station, Angel Island, processed immigrants from around the world, between 1910-1940. The detention barracks is now a museum where poems and drawings cover the wooden walls. Tyrus, as a young boy traveled alone across the Pacific, and did not draw while on Angel Island, but does tell a story of using a radiator in the room to watch chewing gum melt, a game he created to occupy the long days while he waited for a decision from immigration officials. The barracks is open for tours Wed.-Sun., Angel Island State Park is open daily and accessible by public ferry from San Francisco or Tiburon, or by private boat. California State Parks is happy to be part of 5-year old London's adventure today as a Ghostbuster! Born with a heart defect, London has had four open heart surgeries. During this time, the iconic movie was one of the things that helped lift his spirits. Thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, London saved the city of Sacramento from ghosts today. He followed a trail of slime and zapped ghosts at the California State Railroad Museum and the old Eagle Theatre. The little hero then took down the Marshmallow Man at the Old Sacramento Waterfront, where Mayor Darrell Steinberg presented him with the key to the city. We wish London and his family all the best! #LondonSavedtheDay #Ghostbusters #WhoYaGonnaCall
