Today we remember the life of fallen #SDPD Officer Robert Powers EOW:06/16/1928. Patrolman Robert Powers was killed when his police motorcycle was struck head-on by a drunk driver who was driving on the wrong side of the road. The impact of the accident caused Patrolman Powers to be thrown over his handlebars and through the vehicle's windshield. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect was convicted of drunk driving, violation of the Volstead Act, and manslaughter and sentenced to five years. Patrolman Powers had served with the agency for three years. These citizens found out what it’s like to walk in the shoes of a police officer at Inside SDPD – a dynamic, behind-the-scenes experience held at NTC Training Facility. They had the opportunity to participate in a use-of-force demonstration and vehicle stops scenarios.

Help us Keep Your Loved Ones Safe The Take Me Home Program is a regional photo-based information system hosted by the Sheriff's Department and accessible by all Law Enforcement in San Diego County. It is designed to assist during contacts with members of the community who have disabilities such as Autism, Dementia, Alzheimer's, Down Syndrome or any other developmental disabilities. The program gives Law Enforcement access to critical information about the enrolled individual. The Take Me Home Program provides emergency contact information, physical descriptions, known routines and special needs of the enrolled individual. This information can assist Law Enforcement in communicating with, locating a residence, or handling an emergency involving an individual with special needs. This program has photo recognition technology attached to it. If an individual is located and cannot communicate, a photo of the individual can be taken in the field, sent electronically, and checked against those in the Take Me Home Program. How to enroll: Caregivers can enroll special needs family members, friends, or clients online at www.sdsheriff.net/tmh or by calling a Crime Prevention Specialists at their local Sheriff’s Station or Substation (See back of the brochure, which you can access online).

Today we remember the lives of fallen #SDPD Officers Harry Tiffany and Ronald Ebeltoft EOW: 06/06/1981. Patrolman Harry Tiffany and Patrolman Ronald Ebeltoft were shot and killed after responding to a dispute between two neighbors over the placement of a rose bush. During the dispute, one of the men assaulted the other. As both officers were standing outside of the suspect's home the man snuck up behind them and opened fire with an assault rifle, killing them both. A SWAT sniper later shot and killed the suspect. Please take a moment to honor them and the ultimate sacrifice they made protecting the community they both so proudly served. #NeverForget
