PHONE SCAM ALERT Recently our dispatch center has received several calls reporting an alarming telephone scam. As is the case with most scams, the crooks try to play upon an emotional response from the victim and create a sense of urgency that causes victims to act before realizing they are being scammed. Please DON’T fall for this scam! The current scam involves the targeted victim receiving an unsolicited phone call. The caller tells the victim that their loved one has been kidnapped and that they must pay money for their safe return. The caller demands that this money be wired within a short time frame and often tells the victim that they cannot tell anyone about the circumstance or that their loved one will suffer. The scammers involved in this and other phone scams are often located outside of the country and always ask for the money to be wired. Almost all phone scams begin with an UNSOLICITED phone call to the victim. If you receive a call like this, please call the West Sacramento Police Department or your local law enforcement agency immediately. You should also reach out to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1. The FTC has been successful in tracking down some of these crooks in the recent past.

UPDATE: We have rescheduled Coffee with a Cop to October 13th, at Carol's Restaurant from 8-10am. We want to ensure that our officers and community have an opportunity to pay their respects to Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Stasyuk who's memorial services are scheduled for this Saturday at 10am. Thank you for your understanding.

We are officially one week away from our next Coffee with a Cop event. We hope you are planning on joining us next Saturday morning at Carol's Restaurant!
