************************EDIT**************************** It appears the power is back up. If you still do not have power at this time, contact your power company. ************************************************************ There is a power outage in the county, SECPA advises it involves Springfield, Pritchett, Campo, Vilas, and possibly Walsh. They do not have a cause at this time or an ETA but they are aware.

The Baca County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Pritchett and Springfield FFA chapters for their hard work and dedication to our community. BSCO was able to purchase beautiful flowers from both groups and they look stunning! Please feel free to stop by the office to see the new gorgeous flowers or contact our local FFA chapters to get some for yourselves! 🌺

Did You Know? Mother's Day as we know it was created on May 8th, 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed a Joint Resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day to all of our Baca County moms!

Baca County Undersheriff Chris Griffin and his K9 partner Vaccus passed yet another United States Police Canine Association(USPCA) narcotics detector certification with the desired rating of excellence. This certification, also known as a K9 trial, took place in Wyoming at the end of April 2018. For those of you that have not met K9 Vaccus, he is an 11 year old Belgian Malinois that has been trained in narcotics detection and patrol. On top of their success as a K9 team here in Baca County, K9 Vaccus and Undersheriff Griffin also volunteer their off duty time assisting other agencies and jurisdictions that need the assistance of a K9 team. Many people have asked why they travel so far for certifications when there are options that are so much closer to home. The answer is actually pretty simple, Baca County Sheriff’s Office strives to provide the community with a K9 team that not only meets but actually exceeds the standards. According to the USPCA, “Our testing is considered to be the field’s toughest and only national police K-9 certification. There are over 48 U.S. Supreme and Federal District Court rulings that acknowledge the USPCA test as a bona-fide Police K-9 test and evaluation.”

The monthly siren test will be conducted at noon today
