From the Saguache Volunteer Fire Department.... Halloween plans are underway!! The Saguache Volunteer Fire Department will be serving their famous chili's, plus adding one that hopefully be famous as well, we will have cocoa and coffee available as well. Our annual costume contest will be held as well, with prizes awarded for best costume. It is my understanding a trunk or treat will be held in the parking lot of the fire house beginning at 4:30 p.m. Please remember we have to keep our fire trucks unblocked in case of an emergency. They will be on the west side of the firehouse. I believe Amber Price Johnson, can provide more details on other activities. If you wish to help please contact myself, Chris at 719-221-3762 or here by pm, or any firefighter and we can give you more details on where help is needed. Also we will be looking for judges, but you cannot have children or grandchildren in the contest. Donations are greatly appreciated to help purchase prizes for the children. Let's have a fun night!

‎Joe Lewandowski‎ to Sagtowners 16 mins · I am the public information officer for Colorado Parks and Wildlife and this is to talk about the juvenile lion that’s been seen in Saguache and what District Wildlife Manager Clayton BonDurant is doing to address the situation. So far, this lion has shown no aggression towards people. Lions are reclusive, elusive, mostly nocturnal and will feed opportunistically on small mammals. If you see it, please contact Officer BonDurant immediately at 719-850-6364. Without prompt reporting, locating the lion becomes very difficult. The lion appears to be attracted to and is feeding on feral cats in town. CPW requests that Saguache citizens stop feeding the cats. The cats are abundant and provide an attractive food source; as a consequence, pet cats have been taken. Also, CPW encourages residents to secure garbage. Unsecured garbage in open trash cans provides a food source for feral cats and other animals such as skunks, foxes, and most notably BEARS! Last Thursday night, in an attempt to alter the lion’s behavior and hopefully cause it to leave the town, Officer BonDurant was able to use a Taser on the lion to shock it. It ran off and was not seen until Monday night about a mile west of town. If the lion continues to spend time in the area, CPW will make efforts to remove the lion from the town via trapping or tranquilizing. But BonDurant needs to be notified IMMEDIATELY if you see it or evidence of it. CPW appreciates your cooperation.

he Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting following a pursuit of a stolen vehicle in Saguache County, just before 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018. Saguache County deputies attempted to contact the driver and passenger of a stolen vehicle (silver, Jeep Patriot) in the town of Moffat, on Saturday morning. A pursuit was initiated by Saguache County deputies and later joined by a Colorado State Patrol trooper. The female passenger of the stolen vehicle brandished a shotgun during the course of the pursuit that traveled along several county roads. A CSP sergeant successfully deployed stop sticks on Colorado Highway 17 at the Highway 12 junction near the Saguache/Alamosa county line. The stolen vehicle later came to a stop in the middle of Colorado Highway 17. The driver and the passenger both exited the vehicle, with the shotgun brandished during the pursuit, and may have been heading toward another vehicle that had pulled over to yield to the pursuit in the area. The CSP trooper fired multiple rounds toward the suspects. At least one of the suspects fired a weapon. It's believed the male suspect, who had been driving the stolen vehicle, shot himself. Both suspects were pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no injuries to law enforcement during the incident. The CSP trooper's name is not being released at this time. This is an ongoing investigation. --
