Waterbury Police Department's K9 Blitz has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Blitz's vest was sponsored by the Residents of Waterbury Gardens Nursing & Rehab in Waterbury, CT and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Gifted by the Residents of Waterbury Gardens 2017”. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 3,000 protective vests in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a value of $5.7 million dollars. The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of age. New K9 graduates, as well as K9s with expired vests, are eligible to participate. The donation to provide one protective vest for law enforcement K9 is $950.00. Each vest has a value between $1,744 - $2,283, and a five-year warranty and an average weight of 4-5 lbs. There is an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States. On 6/4/18 at approximately 0800 hours, a seven year old child was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street to get on the school bus. The accident occurred on North Main St at its intersection with Elizabeth St. The striking vehicle fled the scene after striking the child and was last seen travelling South on North Main St at a high rate of speed. The vehicle is described as a light colored early 2000’s Nissan Maxima. The Waterbury PD Criminal Investigations Bureau is looking to identify the suspect and vehicle in this Larceny from the 900 block of Bunker Hill Avenue, which occurred on 3/23/18. A snowblower was stolen from outside of the residence by a single white or light-skinned male, who then loaded it into the shown blue truck with blue decal and trailer, possibly a dodge. The stolen snowblower is a Honda brand, with a track instead of wheels. The Waterbury Police Department is attempting to identify and locate the following two individuals and vehicle from an armed robbery that occurred at 23 Orange Street on 01/10/2018. The suspects are described as two black males in their mid 20's and both displayed firearms during the incident. The vehicle is a gray/silver Audi A6 with damage to the driver's side fender area. They are suspects in a Robbery / Assault that took place on Wednesday, December 27th in front of the barber shop on West Main Street at Central Avenue in the downtown area. It is beleived that both parties are Hispanic and live in the same area where the incident took place. On Tuesday 12/12/17 at about 0620 a 75 Year old woman was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Cooke St and Nottingham Ter. The women is in the ICU with very serious injures. The striking vehicle fled after hitting the women. At this time there is no description of the vehicle. The vehicle should have some kind of front end damage grill, hood, fenders, windshield, and possibly the roof.
