On Thursday, approximately 30 Probation Officers completed a three day Effective Practices in Community Supervison (EPICS) training course. The overall goal of EPICS course to equip Probation Officers with the tools to help offenders change their way of thinking which will then lead to reduced recidivism, fewer crimes and increased public safety.

Last weekend three members of the JTVCC staff were recognized at the National Medal of Honor Foundation’s Annual Honors Banquet in Oklahoma City, OK. Deputy Warden James Scarborough was awarded with Supervisor of the Year, C/O Fireman I Justin Tuxward with the Silver Medal for heroism in the line of duty, and Lt. Steven Floyd (In Memoria) with the Medal of Honor.

On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, Glen Allen was apprehended by Delaware State Police Troop 3. He was arraigned at JP 2 before being committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on an Escape after Conviction Warrant in lieu of $10,000 cash bail. Additional charges pending.

Offenders from SVOP today helped The Jefferson School in Georgetown carve pumpkins for their annual Fall fundraiser. Each pumpkin will be on display during the school’s Oktoberfest Chef Challenge at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center this weekend.

Special thanks to the Veterinary Tactical Group and Ocean View Police who gave us the opportunity to participate in the Tactical Canine Casualty Care (TC3) course. The training incorporates current TCCC and TECC guidelines with K9 specific anatomy and physiology to provide the most up-to-date lifesaving information available for working dogs.

On Sunday, October 14, 2018, MCCC was notified that Joel Miller was apprehended by the Anne Arundel County Police Department in Maryland. On October 17, 2018, he was extradited to Delaware. He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on an Escape after Conviction Warrant in lieu of $5,000 secured bond.

On Tuesday, October 16, 2018, Antonio Powell was apprehended by the Dover Police Department. He was arraigned at JP 7 before being committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on an Escape after Conviction Warrant in lieu of $5,000 cash bail. In addition, he obtained new charges of Resisting Arrest, two counts of Assault on a Police Officer, Possession of Marijuana, Disorderly Conduct, and Pedestrian on a Roadway When a Sidewalk is Available, totaling $12,250 secured.

Earlier this afternoon the Kent County Stallions played at Delaware State University in honor of Lt. Steven R. Floyd. Prior to the start of the game, members of the Floyd family were presented with an honorary jersey in remembrance of Lt. Floyd.

APPREHENDED Oliver returned to DOC custody after turning himself in to Wilmington Police Department.

Dion Oliver, a detentioner who was being held at SCI in Georgetown, was erroneously released from the New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington at approximately 10:45 a.m. He was last seen wearing all black clothing at 5th and King Streets. Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies are actively searching for Oliver. If you have information on this offender, immediately call 911. His current offenses are: Attempted Murder 1st (4 counts) Organized Crime & Racketeering (2 counts) PFDCF (10 counts) Assault 2nd (2 counts) Reckless Endangering (4 counts) Poss/Purch/Own Firearm (4 counts) Conspiracy 1st (2 counts)
