PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: UNKNOWN PACKAGE The Milton Police Department appreciates the vigilance of the concerned citizen who notified us of an unknown package outside of our Police Department. The DSP Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) was notified and proper procedures were followed to ensure public and officer/staff safety. DSP EOD along with state and local authorities safely investigated the unknown package and it was determined to not be a threat. All businesses and roads in Milton are now open. Sincerely, Robert J. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Community Clean Up – November 3rd and 10th Through funds available to State legislators, Representative Smyk has provided the Town of Milton with funding towards Community Clean Up. On November 3rd and 10th, between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm you may take items to the trash dumpster at the Public Works Yard, 210 Front Street, for disposal. General household garbage, large items, carpet, mattresses, furniture etc. are permitted. Yard waste, tires, hazardous materials are not permitted! Appliances and equipment must be drained of freon/gas/oil prior to disposal. With any questions, please contact Milton Town Hall 302-684-4110.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Weekend Weather Alert As the remnants of Hurricane Willa move across the Southeastern U.S., a coastal low will form off the coast of the Carolina's and move northward into our area. The storm will move through the region during the later half of Friday and exit the area Saturday afternoon. Here are the key messages for the upcoming coastal storm. *There will be the potential for wind gusts up to 40 mph, especially along the coast and higher ridge lines. *A combination of the residual high tide Saturday morning and wind-driven waves may lead to minor coastal flooding along the Atlantic Coast, Delaware Bay, and tidal Delaware River. *There is also the potential for heavy rain, but the storm will be progressive and move out of the area within a day, so flooding is more likely to be localized verses widespread. *Gale-force gusts are likely across the waters Friday night into Saturday morning. DEADLINE EXTENSION: FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER The Milton Police Department is accepting applications for the position of full-time Police Officer from certified and non-certified applicants. Applicants must be a United States citizen and at least 21 years of age upon completion of the academy. Applicants must also be a High School graduate or the equivalent, be of good moral character, have a visual acuity no more than 20/200 uncorrected that is correctable to 20/20, with a good driving record and must not have any adult criminal convictions. All entry level Police Officers will attend training at an accredited academy. Upon completion of academy training Recruit Officers will be assigned patrol duties. The Milton Police Department offers a competitive salary and a full range of benefits. TROPICAL STORM MICHAEL - Public Service Announcement The Milton Police Department in partnership with the Sussex County EOC continue to monitor this storm and we will provide updates as often as we receive them. Heavy rain (2-4 in.) is expected in the Delmarva area this afternoon into early Friday morning, though it could start as early as this morning & linger as late as mid day Friday. Rain amounts may lead to flash flooding. Minor flooding of small creeks & streams is possible. Wind gusts of 45-50 mph are expected from late tonight into early Friday for Kent & Sussex Counties. Along the Delaware Bay & coastal waters, northwesterly gale force gusts are expected with the possibility of seas up to 9 feet. We strongly urge you to bring your pets inside during this event and secure any outside furniture, grills and such items other items. Should our roads become flooded we will make a specific PSA for them. As always we warn commuters not to drive through standing or moving water on our roadway.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: The MIlton Police Department along with Sussex County EOC continue to monitor the progress of Hurricane Michael which has made landfall in the Florida Panhandle as a Category 4 storm with winds topping 150 mph. The storm is expected to race through the SE United States over the next 36 hours, pulled northward by an approaching cold front, and could bring heavy rains and gusty winds to Sussex County beginning Thu midday and lasting into early Fri AM. National Weather Service forecasts predict as much as 3 to 5 inches of rain, and winds of 30 to 40 mph as what is then expected to be Tropical Storm Michael continues its race back out to sea. Residents and property owners are advised to clear drains, check submersible pumps, and secure or remove any loose objects in advance of the storm. For the latest forecasts, visit www.nhc.noaa.gov. We would like to take a moment and thank the ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 28 for the delicious treats they brought us yesterday. In addition to us, the Auxiliary brought treats for K9 Xena and K9 Zoey (pictured here with Lt. Harvey). We also thank Senator Lopez for the delicious cookies he brought us. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: DOGFISH BREWERY The Milton Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person within the Dogfish Brewery. Milton Police with the assistance of Lewes Police, Georgetown Police, Delaware State Police and Probation and Parole conducted a search of Dogfish's shipping building to try and locate the person. As a precaution, the Cape Henlopen School District kept all of its students and staff at Milton Elementary School, HOB Elementary School and Mariner Middle School inside their respective buildings until the situation was cleared. While an extensive search of the building was being conducted, intelligence gathering was underway and it was determined the person in question was not at the brewery or in the Town of Milton at the time of the incident. THERE IS NOBODY IN CUSTODY AS A RESULT OF THIS INCIDENT. The Milton Police Department will always err on the side of caution when it comes to the safety of our youth and community. We want to thank those agencies who responded and the professionalism they exhibited. We also thank the staff of Dogfish Head and the Cape Henlopen School District for their cooperation during this event.

The Rogers Family of Milton recently explained to their young children not only the impact of 9/11 on the United States but also the jobs of all first responders that day. They dropped off these yummy cupcakes to us and Milton Fire Department today. Thank you Rogers Family for thinking about us.
