This young lady was helping her father in the panhandle with debris removal when she bumped into our Davie Police team. She was handing out painted rocks to all of the law enforcement officers who were assisting with the recovery efforts as a show of appreciation. She has over 1000 rocks to give out. This is sign that proves that Florida will rebuild the panhandle and we will recover. #ForidaStrong #HurricaneMichael

Today was career day at Flamingo Elementary School in Davie. The kids got to meet Rocky, our therapy dog, see the police mounted unit, talk to members of our Special Response Team, and hear from our traffic motorcycle unit. Our officers explained some of the equipment that we use and our various job functions. Overall, the kid were most interested in petting Lt. Dan (he's a horse), and the lights & siren on the motorcycle.

Sgt. Ravine is trying to get some work done this morning, but Detective Rocky is waiting for his morning walk.

We hope that everyone has a happy, and most importantly a SAFE Halloween this year. Please follow these simple tips to help keep the kids safe: 1. Stay OUT of the roadway and ON the sidewalk 2. NEVER go inside of anyone's house. 3. Stay in a large group with an adult. Parents, make sure that you stay with your children in an area that you are familiar with and cary a flashlight in the event that you are out past dark. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!

We were proud to host a "Mounted Police Training Academy" that graduated last week. The course was held at the Davie Bergeron Rodeo from October 15 - 19, 2018. The course was put on by the University of Louisville and is the only accredited mounted patrol school in the nation. Attendees for this course were members from the Sarasota County (FL) Sheriff's Office, The Plymouth Massachusetts Police Department, and The Davie Police Department.

One of our Davie Police teams in the panhandle were assisting the Marianna Police Dept on a call when they saw a group of kids playing basketball with an old volleyball and a milk crate. The officers pooled some money together and went out to get them a new hoop set and B-ball so that they could have the proper equipment. After they built the set in the Jackson County Sheriff's Officer aviation hanger, they set it up for the kids. A few hours later, the kids and community were all outside playing ball and having fun. This is part of rebuilding the community, and we are happy to be a part of it. #FloridaStrong #HurricaneMichael

After a long work week helping out in the panhandle after #HurricaneMichael, Davie Police K-9 Anti needed to take a quick dip in the Blue Springs Park lake in Jackson County. The Davie Police Department has had teams in the panhandle from the beginning and we will be there as long as needed to help the Florida panhandle recover. #FloridaStrong

Our Police Administration Volunteer, Anne was able to return today October 23rd to her duties after suffering from an Iguana bite to her lower leg. She was bitten approximately 6 weeks ago in her back yard in Davie while feeding the Ibis birds. Anne was hospitalized for a few days after the bite for an infection and is now on the road to recovery. Anne has been a police department volunteer since February 2009 and is very committed to her volunteer work. It seemed that Anne was more upset about not being able to assist in her normal duties as a volunteer than she was about her injury. We were glad to have Anne back, and appreciate the time and work she provides to the police department. In Florida, Green Iguanas, Mexican Iguanas, and Black Spiny Tailed Iguanas are a few of the invasive and non-native species. It is recommended that you DO NOT feed them. It is LEGAL to trap and kill iguanas as long as it is done in a humane manner. It is ILLEGAL to release an iguana once it is trapped. Please refer to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website for more details.

Crime Prevention Tip of The Day! Sorry, you didn't win the lottery in some foreign country. Please DO NOT send money to anyone that you don't know.

This week we welcome our newly sworn officers. David Delillis, Amanda Herrera, Pedro Perez, and Jenna Leffler were sworn in by Police Chief Keith Dunn. After a few weeks of in house training, they will begin their field training.

Our second crew is on the way up to the Florida panhandle to assist the Marianna Police Dept with operations during the recovery of #HurricaneMichael. Thank you MISSION BBQ for taking care of lunch before the long drive ahead. #FloridaStrong

Thank you Davie FOP Lodge 100 for getting these much needed items to send with the next crew up to the panhandle.

Today we say goodbye to Sergeant E.J. Cuneo and wish him well in retirement. Sgt. Cuneo served with the Davie Police Department since 2007. Prior to serving with Davie, he was with the Key West Police Department and the United States Navy.

A detachment of Davie personnel are in the Florida Panhandle assisting with recovery efforts after Hurricane Michael. Today, a group of them were honored to meet Florida Governor Rick Scott and Jackson County Sheriff Lou Roberts. #FloridaStrong #HurricaneMichael

At around 4am on October 10th a Davie Police officer observed a car stopped in front of an outer gas pump at the Marathon Gas Station located at 4450 S. University Drive in Davie. What drew his attention was that they were not pumping gas, and were opening up the gas pump cover. As the officer moved closer to investigate, he observed one of the subjects attempting to install a credit card skimming device inside of the pump. The two were arrested and numerous items that are consistent with credit card skimming were collected as evidence. They had special tools to access the pump, a laptop computer, other skimming devices, several gift cards, and even extra Department of Agriculture seals.
