A great night for a great cause! Not only has the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County had a positive and guiding impact on many HPD Officers, but the organization also helped save the life of Hulk Hogan when he was growing up in Tampa.

Friday morning, the life of a 91-year-old Hollywood resident was saved by some very caring and quick-thinking HPD Officers. Around 10 a.m., Police and Fire Rescue responded to a residential fire on N 14th Way. The first floor of the apartment complex was fully engulfed by fire. As crews worked to quickly extinguish the fire, officers evacuated everyone in the area, including helping an elderly resident who lived nextdoor. Officers rescued her, pulling her out of the smoke-filled apartment to safety. She was transported to the hospital.

One of the most common mistakes we see people make is leaving your car doors unlocked and/or leaving valuables in plain sight 👀 making it an easy target 🎯for criminals. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...... ✋DONT LEAVE YOUR CARS UNLOCKED. ✋TAKE YOUR VALUABLES/GUNS OUT OF YOUR CAR. Losing your iPad, phone, wallet, camera really, really stinks. So, please do what you can to prevent it. 🚙➕🔒 = 🤗😀 https://www.local10.com/news/crime/thwarting-thieves-reducing-your-risk-of-becoming-a-victim

While this is still in its early stages, we are happy to be a part of this #animalrescue program. Thank you to all of the officers, volunteers and city employees who have made this happen!❤️🐾

SILHOUETTES BREAK THE SILENCE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Hollywood Police Department Victim Advocates attended the vigil held in honor of victims and survivors of intimate partner violence as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Each silhouette in the photo represents a victim who lost their life to domestic homicide from October 2017 to present day, throughout Broward County and Hollywood. The Hollywood Police Department is committed to reducing domestic violence, that’s why we have partnered with Women in Distress to open a Victim’s Justice Center which offers a safe space for domestic violence victims, and their children, to find the resources they need. These services are free of charge, completely confidential, and open to everyone. Services are offered in multiple languages. The center offers counseling and support services, children’s services, education and professional trainings, women’s empowerment group, crisis hotline, and emergency shelter. Having victim advocates and law enforcement officers working alongside and as a team is crucial to increasing the resources and services available for the victims, and ensuring their safety. If you need help, or know someone who does, call 954-760-9800. Don’t suffer in silence. #LoveShouldntHurt #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth #DomesticViolenceAware

Supporting the Fighters 💗Admiring the Survivors 💗 Honoring the Taken 💗 and never, ever giving up Hope. 💗 This week, HPD was proud to unveil our pink badges in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In addition, the command staff surprised the Chief and wrapped his vehicle in pink for #BreastCancerAwareness. We have all been touched somehow by cancer. We all know someone who has been impacted. There are people in our own HPD family who are thriving and surviving. This month is dedicated to the fighters, they need to know they are not alone. Special thanks to Metro Group Miami for wrapping the car. #OnWednesdaysWeWearPink

3 NEW OFFICERS 6 LIFESAVING AWARDS 8 OFFICERS & EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH 9 CHIEF'S SPECIAL RECOGNITION Last week we recognized men and women of HPD who have gone above and beyond what their job description entails. There are SO many stories of heroism, compassion and dedication to the Hollywood community. In one instance, officers responded to a woman who was suffering from large lacerations to her upper arm, which resulted in arterial bleeding. The woman was beginning to lose consciousness due to her excessive bleeding. Officers applied a tourniquet to the woman's arm to stop the bleeding. The victim was transported to the hospital, and thanks to their quick thinking, the woman was stabilized. In another instance, an elderly and bedridden Hollywood resident called the PD fearing her water would be shut off. The PD employee eased the her mind and assured her she would help. She then coordinated with an officer to respond to the citizen's home to assist her in setting up automatic payments through the online portal. Another officer was recognized for conducting a 'routine' traffic stop which led to uncovering a scheme where the suspects were stealing over-the-counter medications from drugstores and pawning them for thousands of dollars. Congratulations to our new officers and the officers and staff who have gone above and beyond their 9 to 5. And a VERY SPECIAL thanks to the Hollywood Hills Leadership and Military Academy.
