In May of this year, our local FOP Lodge discovered that the 1988 line of duty death of Charlotte County Sheriff's Office K9 Major had not been recorded at the National or State Memorials, or the Officer Down Memorial page. It is unknown if they recorded K9 deaths at that time, but steps were taken to remedy the error and have the death recorded, as well as add him to the Law Enforcement Memorial in Charlotte County. October 18th marked the 30th anniversary of K9 Major's end of watch. Representatives from the Robert E. Lister Memorial FOP Lodge 66 and the CCSO Canine Unit commemorated the anniversary with a small ceremony at the FOP Lodge, adding him to the Memorial.
