The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is truly heartbroken today, as we’ve learned of a mass shooting in California. Twelve people were killed, including Sergeant Ron Helus, a 29 year law enforcement veteran, from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. With bravery and selflessness we’re told Sgt. Helus ran toward the shooter to protect the innocent. In doing so, he gave his life, paying the ultimate sacrifice for others. Today, we offer our most sincere condolences in such a tragic time. #CCSOFL

🔺COMMUNITY UPDATE, Halloween candy case(s): The evening of Halloween, we received a complaint of candy that had been tampered with. The days after putting out our posts to advise the community, we received two additional complaints. Since that time, our detectives have been working relentlessly to solve these cases, as children’s safety is a top priority. During our investigative measures, we have learned that all allegations were falsified and that no candy had been tampered with. At this time, all three cases have been unfounded. We are currently working with the State Attorney’s Office concerning charges to come for these false allegations, which caused great community concern. #CCSOFL

As of this date, Terence Harris has been arrested with some investigative measures still active.
