Lake City Police Department News

We will be out this weekend conducting targeted enforcement for seat belts and speeders/aggressive drivers. One piece of advice: once we're behind you, we already know why we're pulling you over. Don't try a "Seat Belt Fakie" - it doesn't work. Just wear your seat belt and avoid a ticket.

This is a shared message from Lake City Utilities. ----- Notice to Lake City Drinking Water Customers The city of Lake City Water Facilities Department will be temporarily converting its disinfectant process from chloramines (a combination of chlorine and ammonia) to free chlorine residual beginning June 29, 2018 and ending on July 30, 2018. This is a routine measure that is common for water utilities using chloramines as its primary disinfectant. Water utilities using chloramines must periodically change to using chlorine alone, known as free chlorine, to maintain optimal levels of disinfection within the water distribution system. Customers may notice a temporary change in the taste, odor and/or color of the water, which is not harmful. Anyone who uses a kidney dialysis machine at home should contact their equipment supplier so the proper filtering equipment may be installed. Tropical fish or aquatic animal owners should contact a local tropical fish store for appropriate pretreatment of water before adding water to tanks. Again, this is a routine precautionary measure to ensure our customers of clean, safe potable water. Please feel free to contact our office during regular business hours at (386) 466-3350 if you should have any questions.

Memorial Day Weekend is one of the highest concentrations of crash injuries from unbuckled vehicle occupants in Florida. This weekend, we will be out in force as part of the Click it or Ticket campaign, conducting mobile saturation patrols as well as stationary enforcement operations. This weekend, we would like to ask everyone to help us achieve our citation goal of ZERO. If everyone could please do their part and take three seconds to buckle up, we would greatly appreciate it. We can't do this alone, but with your help, we can help avoid unnecessary injuries or fatalities while enjoying the long weekend.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us identify the man in this photo. The case is still under investigation but we no longer need assistance identifying him. Thanks! ----- Original Post: The Lake City Police Department is currently seeking assistance identifying the man shown in this picture, suspected of several thefts in the downtown area. If you have any information, please contact Investigator Kevin Johns at 386-758-5471

All eastbound lanes of US 90 at Lake Jeffery Rd are blocked due to a traffic crash. Please use SW Baya Dr to avoid the area.

We're live from the Florida Welcome Center for Hands Across the Border. We are here together with Law Enforcement from Florida and Georgia, State and Local Agencies, with a shared mission. Click It or Ticket is currently underway, and we stand together to help educate the public and ultimately, save lives.

This weekend is going to be a busy one! Not only is tomorrow Cinco de Mayo, we have two major sports tournaments coming to town. Please keep in mind the additional traffic on our roadways, including people who may be unfamiliar with the area. Our Strategic Traffic Enforcement Program will be running this weekend alongside our Traffic Oriented Policing Unit to provide additional eyes on the road. Please be considerate of other drivers and don't drive aggressively. Also remember the roadways around the Southside Sports Complex and Richardson Gym have much lower speed limits. If you're planning to party this weekend, make sure to designate a driver in advance! If you're planning to drink any worms... maybe also designate someone to talk you out of it!

Still 30 minutes left for Coffee with a Cop at Dunkin Donuts! Come on by and get some free coffee and donuts, and maybe a good conversation with one of our officers!

We're bringing in extra staff this weekend to keep an eye out for aggressive drivers! This stretch of highway results in the highest concentration of crashes and injuries. When driving this weekend, please think twice, and drive nice!

The next Farm Share will be April 28th, from 8am โ€“ 10am (or while supplies last). The event will be located in the gravel parking-lot south of the Police Department. The staging area will be located at NW Washington St. and NW Hilton Ave. (The line will go east on NW Washington to NW Alachua Ave and south toward the gravel parking-lot south of the Police Department.) Each vehicle can have up to 3 people representing 3 families. Each person will receive one bag of each item. This is a drive through event, you do not have to get out of your vehicle. As you pull through the loading area you will have to stop at each loading spot for safety of the volunteers loading the bags in your vehicle. Even though this event is a drive through, we will have a walk up area. The walk-ups will receive one bag only. The walk up area will be staged by the mobile command vehicle away from the vehicle pulling through the event. If you are walking to the pickup area, please DO NOT walk through traffic.
