SCHOOL BUS SAFETY As daylight saving time ending this weekend there's a EXTRA responsibility on all of us to take caution as many children could be traveling to their bus stop in the dark.

Sgt. Vafiades and Ofc. Singh are busy patrolling Riverview Park for the Clam Bake. Make sure you come to the Clam Bake this weekend!

We would like to introduce Kim Denmark. Kim is a part of Walk Across America which is a non-profit that brings awareness to homeless veterans. Kim is walking across America and will be in Sebastian this weekend. You can meet her at the Clam Bake!

Congratulations to dispatcher Sabrina Jackson! Sabrina was recognized as CIT Officer of the quarter for her calm handling of a suicidal person. Sabrina talked with the person and convinced them to get help instead of suicide. Way to go Sabrina!

Going on now Annual Soup Bowl Day to support Samaritan Center. So go get some soup at different locations throughout the county.

Here is some important information. If you still write a check please go and get a Uni-Ball non-erasable ink pen. This way if check is stolen the bad guy cannot wash check and re-write. Recently we have had mail theft(aka "Fishing") at the Post Office in the blue mailbox outside. Please when I say take important information via mail to Post Office, you literally have to go inside and place envelope in the mail slot. Do not use mailbox out front if you can avoid it. Also if you use mailbox at home please put mail out right about when you mail person comes because we still have those that go around and steal from them. Important mail includes, bills with checks, gift cards, cash, important papers. Mailboxes unfortunately today are good for the junk mail we get. If you have any questions or would like me to come out and speak on Identity Theft/Fraud please feel free to call me Roberta Barker at SPD 589-5233 X8508

The Sebastian Police Department would like to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Halloween. As we know Halloween is a night of fun and fright, but it does require extra caution when it comes to keeping your little monsters safe. Trick-or-treating safety tips 1. Provide adult supervision. Trick or treat is safer – not to mention more fun – in groups, and adult supervision is essential. ... 2. Stay on the sidewalks. ... 3. Carefully check candy. ... 4. Choose bright, visible costumes. ... 5. Make sure costumes are well-fitted and safe. ... 6. Teach your child to never enter a stranger’s home 7. Have kids carry glow sticks or small flashlight 8. Do not go to door to home with Porch light off Drive Extra Safely on Halloween 1. Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways. 2. Take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians and on curbs. 3. Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully. 4. Eliminate any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings. 5. Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic and turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances. 6. Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. so be especially alert for kids during those hours.
