UPDATE: We are saddened to report that Mr. Kolhhafer was found earlier today by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deceased. Details surrounding his death are under investigation, however, foul play is not suspected. Bradenton Police would like to thank everyone who actively looked for Karl during the past 24 hours. Our thoughts are with his family during this time. The Bradenton Police Department is actively looking for Mr. Karl Kohlhafer of Palmetto. He checked himself out of Blake Medical Center on October 31, 2018, against medical advice. There is concern for his health and mental well-being. He is a white male, 67 years old, five foot seven, and weighs one hundred pounds. He has gray hair, blue eyes, and has a full beard. There is no clothing description at this time. If you come into contact with Mr. Kohlhafer, please act accordingly and contact 911 or Detective Jay Gow at 941-932-9373.

Today marks the first day of Movember, where our officers will be growing beards and raising money to fund research for testicular and prostate cancer. They will compete to see who can grow the best beard by the end of the month, but we think someone might already be cheating! Continuing relief efforts today in Washington County. Please keep the entire panhandle in your prayers during this time. Our guys on the ground are amazed by the outpouring of support they’re witnessing firsthand! #OneCityOneTeam

Several of our officers have spent the last few days in Chipley, Washington County, working with hundreds of other first responders to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Michael. They’re distributing emergency supplies, performing welfare checks, and trying to get residents back on their feet. Working together, we can weather any storm!

We've seen the devastation from Hurricane Michael that has hit the Panhandle and surrounding areas, and we are grateful that Manatee has yet to see a significant storm this year. However, it's important to ALWAYS be prepared in the case of an emergency. Is your family hurricane ready? Check out this great preparedness website from Manatee County Public Safety to make sure you're ready. https://mymanatee.org/departments/public_safety/emergency_management/emergency_management_news/hurricane_preparedness

The Bradenton Police Department was awarded accredited status during the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, or CFA, conference in Clearwater Beach on October 3. The department had to comply with approximately 260 standards in order to achieve accredited status. Accreditation, a highly-prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence, certifies that the Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services are in compliance with CFA standards. Accreditation must be re-evaluated every three years.
