This weekend we were honored to participate in the Heroes Hangout, Childhood Cancer Awareness Police Car Initiative which showcased police vehicle from all over Miami-Dade wrapped and decorated in support of our little heroes during September National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

You may have seen us at Marlins Stadium Yesterday. September is the National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Therefore, this year we have decided to team up with and fully support the Mystic Force Foundation for Childhood Cancer. Sadly, Childhood Cancer continues to be the #1 disease killer of children in our country and the incidence of Childhood Cancer continues to rise. In support of our Littlest Heroes we will be raising awareness by participating in the Childhood Cancer Police Car Initiative. In essence, by participating in this initiative, we have placed GOLD Ribbons on several vehicles throughout the month of September to highlight our commitment in bringing awareness to this devastating disease. This will be the first time in our Nation's history that police departments join forces to show their support for our kids battling this devastating disease. #hialeahgardenspolice #Mysticforcefoundation #curechildcancer

Where did the summer go? With children heading back to school, we at the Hialeah Gardens Police Department wanted to share these safety reminders with you: 1. Watch your speed in school zones! Be aware that school zone speed limits may vary in hours and speeds. Be sure to follow the posted limits. 2. Slow down in residential areas. Watch for children crossing the street and congregating near bus stops. 3. Do not pass a school bus that is stopped to load or unload children. Traffic in both directions on undivided highways must stop when students are entering or exiting a school bus (the red flashing lights and extended stop sign arms are your cue to stop). On a divided roadway, all traffic behind the school bus must stop. 4. Be alert! The area 10 feet around a school bus is where children are in the most danger of being hit. Children walking to and from their bus are usually very comfortable with their surroundings and more likely to take risks, ignore hazards, or fail to look both ways when crossing the street. 5. Always stop when directed to do so by a school patrol sign, school patrol officer, or designated crossing guard. For more tips on school safety, check out the National Safety Council's Back to School Safety Checklist: https://bit.ly/2KIPh8T. Here's to a safe and healthy school year!
