What are you wearing tomorrow? “More than one of every five school-aged children report being bullied,” said Julie Hertzog, director of PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, which sponsors Unity Day and founded National Bullying Prevention Month in 2006. “By joining together and wearing and sharing ORANGE on Unity Day, we can send the unified message that we care about student’s physical and emotional health and that bullying will no longer be accepted in this society.” #UNITYDAY2018

National Teen Driver Safety Week: October 21-27, 2018 This week and every week, parents should have conversations with their teens about the important rules they need to follow to stay safe behind the wheel of a passenger car, truck, or SUV. These rules address the greatest dangers for teen drivers: alcohol, inconsistent or no seat belt use, distracted and drowsy driving, speeding, and number of passengers. The Problem: Too many teens are dying on our roads #RulesForTheRoad #NTDSW

Largo Police Team 2 in the Panhandle encountered a man who had a tree on his house. Officers helped to clear the tree and tarp his roof. These are just part of our efforts in Jackson County. Team 3 is en route today. #hurricanemichael

The story went national about a who-done-it homicide in 2014 solved by the Largo Police Department. Our outstanding team of detectives are still on the job putting murderers like William Coffin behind bars.

With more than 780,000 licensed teen drivers in the state of Florida, it is so important for teens to practice safe driving. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) works to educate teens on the importance of buckling up, observing all speed limits, never driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and always keeping hands on the wheel, eyes on the road and mind on driving. #WeArriveAlive

There is a tremendous amount of assistance in the Panhandle for the recovery from Hurricane Michael. Largo Police Special Incident Response Team is proud to be part of the effort. The situation is slowly improving in Jackson County. We pull one more shift tomorrow then turn it over to our relief team.

Largo Hurricane officers invited to fish fry! Our Largo PD cruisers were seen patrolling in a destroyed Marianna neighborhood. A member of the Eastside Baptist Church called LPD dispatch back home to tell us we needed to come to their dinner this afternoon. We were treated to batter fried fish, hush puppies, green and baked beans, cake, and sweet tea. Best meal we’ve had in Jackson County! Thanks again so much to the gracious people of the church and the community. #hurricanemichael @LargoPD

Super long day helping out folks in Jackson County by our SIRT team #hurricanemichael Quelled some disturbances, checked on stranded residents, and did whatever was necessary for Jackson SO. Ended with movie night projected on the Mobile Command Vehicle. Good night, Largo. Stay safe.

LPD is on road patrol in Jackson County. After some minor disturbance calls, we are now doing damage assessments in a large rural subdivision that no law enforcement has been out to yet. Folks are happy to see our blue and red lights in their neighborhoods... #hurricanemichael

Our Largo officers in the Panhandle were humbled by some of the devastation in downtown Marianna caused by Hurricane Michael. They were on their way to assist at FEMA food and water distribution center for the day.

LPD officers received a complaint of a suspicious man at Eagle Lake Park this week. Our caller emailed Mayor Brown to thank us for the response. "They assured me I did the right thing by calling. Apparently the creepy guy had a rap sheet and had been in trouble before. I wanted to let you know and pass on my appreciation to the dispatcher and the officers who responded," wrote Ms. L. Statsick. The creepy guy was arrested for trespassing after warning from an L-L. His criminal history was serious. Kudos to Ofc's Sims, Snyder, Asbury, and Telecommunicator Ramsey. Thanks Ms. Statsick for the kind words and the photo.

LPD is rolling up I-75 with the Mobile Command Vehicle, two cruisers, and a department pick-up to Hurricane Michael. ETA to Jackson Sheriff’s Office, Midnight.

Members of our SIRT (Special Incident Response Team) are headed to Jackson County, FL to assist their sheriff’s office with the devastation from Hurricane Michael. The eye passed right over them. We expect to deploy officers every 5-6 days for a month. #HurricaneMichael #TrueLifeBlueLife

Throwback Thursday: TAC Training at our old LPD range back in the early 2000’s. Ofc’s Bruno, Amodeo, Seale, Coyle, Chaney, Trebino, Medics Ponds, Mannion, and Mixon. Good guys, good times. Godspeed Greg. We’ll miss you.

Please congratulate TAC Team members Sgt. Veizi, Ofc. Bolton, Ofc. Hartmann, and Ofc. Cheney on their 3rd place finish for the 25th Anniversary SOCOM Mogadishu Mile Competition at Macdill Air Force Base. Our team competed against 25 mostly military teams in the day’s event. The day started at 0700 for a memorial 5K run around the base. The primary event then started at 0830. The event was set up to give operators a snap shot of Operation Gothic Serpent, better known as Black Hawk Down. Operators were faced with rope climbs, clearing a shoot house, clearing an alley way and engaging several live fire moving and non-moving targets while other operators rescued a pilot from a downed helicopter. Operators then had to traverse several obstacles and carry the downed pilot through the obstacles to safety. At the end of the run we were then tested on our knowledge of events during the actual incident 25 years ago. This competition honors the sacrifice and courage of our US military on that horrific day in 1993.

Two suspects wanted in a $28,000 rental scam in Largo have been arrested in Las Vegas. Nicole and David Johnson were being investigated by Las Vegas Metro Police for another rental scam when it was discovered that they were wanted on Largo Police warrants for Felony Scheme to Defraud. They are in custody and awaiting extradition. Thanks to @LVMPD for the assist in nabbing our wayward felons!
