Transportation Security Administration Administrator, David Pekoske, awarded MPD Chief Wanda Dunham and MARTA CEO Jeffrey Parker the TSA’s Gold Standard Award for achieving the highest standard of excellence in security. This is the second time MPD earned the TSA Gold Standard Award. MARTA is 1 of only 5 transit agencies in the country to achieve this accomplishment in 2018. The prestigious honor was awarded on the results of MARTA’s strong performance on TSA’s Baseline Assessment for Security Enhancement (BASE) program. The BASE program is designed to establish a security standard for individual transit system security programs and assess progress in seventeen key areas. MARTA earned high scores in each of these categories. TSA considered this caliber of performance as reaching a “Gold Standard” and recognized MARTA for having strong security programs.

MPD was on hand to answer questions and give away prizes this morning at the Senior Safety Conference at the Bowden Senior Facility in East Point. MPD’s Cyber Team member, Antwan Banks, attended the Industrial Control Security Conference to learn how to protect MARTA’s new train control system. Cyber Security plays an integral role in MPD’s day-to-day operations and is a critical part of MARTA’s planning for Super Bowl LIII.
