Last week, Columbus State University hosted the fall Georgia Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (GACLEA) meeting. We had some great training, including a block of instruction from our very own Dr. Chip Reese on Managing the University Police Role in the Behavioral Intervention Team. The meeting involved administrators from all over the state and we realized that we had a CSU Police Chief reunion. Three chiefs, representing the agency leadership for 18 years, were all on campus. From left to right are Chief Rus Drew (2006-2016) Chief David Horace (2000-2006), Dr. Chip Reese, and Chief Mark Lott (2016-Present). Chief Drew is now with the Emory Police Department and Chief Horace is at the Georgia Highlands College Police Department. #Leadership #CampusSafety #Police

Hurricane Michael continued to build in intensity last night and this morning. Out of an abundance of caution, and to ensure our faculty, staff and students have time to properly prepare for this storm, Columbus State University is cancelling all classes and business operations as of noon today and through tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 11.) Regular operations will resume Friday morning (Oct. 12). This closure applies to all classes, events scheduled on campus, practices, rehearsals and business operations. All campus facilities should be vacated, except for essential personnel such as university police and Residence Life staff. The last campus shuttle will run depart main campus at 6:15 p.m. Campus dining facilities will close today at 6 p.m. Provided staff are able to get into their facilities tomorrow, breakfast will begin serving at 9 am in the Cougar Cafe and the Den downtown. If any further changes are needed in campus operations, CSU will provide notification first to faculty, staff and students through CougarAlert. Please also tune in to local media for the latest updates on what to expect from the storm. Stay safe Cougars.
