One of best rewards of our community partnerships, is seeing the positive impact on families. Yesterday, building on the generosity of the William C. Knapp Charitable Foundation, DMPD, DM Parks and Rec, our City leaders, Knapp employees, and members of our community came together to assemble new playground equipment and plant 17 new trees at Evelyn K. Davis Park. It's awesome to think about how this work will be enjoyed for many years to come! Thanks to all who pitched in!

DMPD honored our 2018 retirees last night at the Annual Retirement Dinner. Thanks to all the current employees, and retirees, who came out to show our appreciation for decades of devoted service to our community! Enjoy your well-deserved retirement!

With only one month in service, the DMPD NIBIN technology has proven successful in connecting guns to crime, and crime to criminal! On 29 Sept, officers investigated the sixth in a series of convenience store robberies with similar characteristics. In this incident, the robber escalated his violence and fired a handgun at a witness. DMPD Crime Scene Investigators recovered shell casings at that scene. On 30 Sept, officers investigating an accidental shooting incident encounter encountered 18 year old Ankeny resident Damir Young. Young was found to have two handguns in his possession, one of which was a stolen handgun. He was arrested. In the days that followed, the DMPD Crime Scene Investigation Unit was able to scientifically connect the casings from the robbery, to the gun Young possessed. That evidence, along with additional evidence gathered by detectives, resulted in Young being charged with one count of Robbery-1st degree. Excellent work, complemented by top of the line technology! We're proud of Investigations Division! Check out KCCI'S story at the link below... https://www.kcci.com/article/accidental-shooting-new-technology-help-police-crack-metro-crimes/23712891

A pioneer in the DMPD family Captain (Ret.) Richard Sanders passed away on Oct 10th. Capt. Sanders began his career in 1962, rising to the rank of Captain, before retiring in 1993. Capt. Sanders was the first black Captain in the history of DMPD. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Capt. Sanders.
