This is the reason for the Red Flag Warning. This is the reason we have an ordinance prohibiting burning during Red Flag Warnings. This fire is located in Kankakee County, over 1 hour North of Vermilion County. Yet several fire departments from Vermilion County have also responded to this incident to assist as part of MABAS division 40. Please refrain from any outside burning during a Red Flag Warning.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Vermilion County today May 1, 2018 from noon to 7:00 p.m. This is a reminder that as per Westville ordinance, no outdoor burning shall occur within Westville limits during a Red Flag Warning. Please share to help make everyone aware. Officers will be watching for outdoor burning and citations will be issued. To read the Village of Westville open burning ordinance in full, or any other ordinance, you can visit www.villageofwestville.com. Thank You for helping keep our community safe.

In the early morning hours today an attempted robbery occurred at the Casey's General Store located at 750 S. State St. in Westville. The suspect left on foot without obtaining any money. If you have any information that may assist in identifying the suspect in the picture, please contact Westville Police Department.

Recently there have been solicitors in the area asking to look at power bills to lower your rates. Currently Direct Energy is the only company like this that has a valid permit to solicit within Westville limits. If someone comes to your door to try to sell you anything, please ask to see their permit. If they are unable to provide proof, please call and report them so we can stop this. Also, all current solicitor permits are available on www.villageofwestville.com under the Community information tab on the left side.

In the past few weeks we have received some reports of a scam involving Ameren power customers. This scam involves a phone call from a number that identifies itself on caller ID as Ameren Disconnect. The person on the line will advise that they have not received payment and will be shutting off the power that day, usually within the hour, unless you provide payment over the phone. Most of the time they are advising people to go to a local store and call them back. Once you call back they advise you to purchase some type of prepaid credit card and then give them the card information. If you are contacted by someone you suspect is part of a scam involving Ameren Illinois, hang up, and please call: 800-755-5000. Update**** Owner located Currently visiting us at the police station. Please contact us if he belongs to you.

In recent weeks we have received several complaints and reports of juvenile/unlicensed drivers operating golf carts around the village. We would like to remind everyone that anyone who operates a golf cart on streets or alleys within the village must have a valid drivers license. This does not mean that an unlicensed juvenile can operate the golf cart with a licensed driver in the passenger seat. No warnings will be given. All offenses in relation to an unlicensed driver operating the golf cart will result in a citation to the respective owner of the golf cart or adult/licensed person on the golf cart at the time, as well as a revocation of the Village of Westville golf cart registration. We have well over 100 registered golf carts within the village and need everyone's cooperation to keep from losing this privilege.

Found by Rosie's Tavern in Grape Creek. Please contact us if you know who its owner is.
