Lenexa Police Department News

An inspiring time and message last night at the Johnson County NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet.

It was a chilly ‘Friday Night Lights’ for our School Resource Officers at the St James Academy game last night. They’re all smiles after a big win!

Sometimes parents use us to scare their kids when we’re around. This mom has a great idea! Bring your kiddo to Coffee with a Cop tomorrow to show them we are helpers!

Come hang out with us tomorrow morning from 9-11 AM at the Johnson County Library (KS) Lackman Branch for Coffee with a Cop!!

Keep our officer in your thoughts tonight. He thought it was a good idea to wear his Broncos jersey to work.

Some of our officers were thrilled to participate at Super Hero’s Day today at Sams Club to help support the Children’s Miracle Network!

One of our favorite community events of the year is hanging out with so many great kiddos at the Enchanted Forest! We had a blast last night! So many great police costumes, Slugerrr and KC Wolf are a hoot, Pennywise was, well...creepy and Princess Leia definitely had the force! We love Lenexa!

We are offering 2 great services this Saturday, Oct 28. The first is the National Prescription Drug Take Back event. We are accepting expired or unused medications: pills or patches only, no liquids or needles. We are accepting those from 10am-2pm, no paperwork or ?'s asked. The other event is a Car Seat Safety Check. Our certified inspectors will ensure that your child's seat is property installed and appropriate for their size and age. That event is 8am-2pm and we do recommend calling to schedule a time during that window, although we will also accept walk-ups.

When you’re asked to help judge the Lenexa Chili Challenge, you don’t argue!

Here's a crime trend we've seen pop up again in our area over the last week. Victims are followed from banks after making a withdrawal. As victim continues to run errands like the grocery store or gas station, the suspect breaks into their vehicle and steals withdrawal. This video is from one we had earlier this year in broad daylight. This has happened at various banks not only in Lenexa, but around KC and the rest of the county. Our focus is on making you aware and hopefully preventing you from becoming a victim by: 1) stow your withdrawal envelope out of sight before exiting the bank 2) don't leave it behind in your vehicle 3) be aware of your surroundings at all times and alert 911 of suspicious behavior or person.

Tonight and tomorrow is the annual Lenexa Chili Challenge in Old Town. Be aware of road closures on Santa Fe Trail Dr and Pflumm in that area. Also be alert for pedestrian and bicycle traffic around this event. Fireworks are scheduled for 8PM tonight in case you hear the kabooms in your neighborhood!

Thanks to Topeka Capital-Journal for promoting the 5th annual Heartland Police K9 Competition in KCMO coming up this Saturday. Come out and see us as well as many other area police dogs!

We are attempting to ID this theft suspect from a case we are working. The vehicle is a Chevy Impala with MO plates. If you know who he might be please message us or leave a tip at 913-477-7737. We'd also appreciate a share!

Mark your calendars now for the 5th Annual Heartland Police Canine Competition. This fun, family friendly event takes place Oct 21 and will feature dozens of area Police K9's in action! There will even be a special appearance by Chase from Paw Patrol!

Do you recognize this guy? We are trying to ID him as part of an investigation into an auto burglary, theft and credit card fraud case. Please DM or call us at 913-477-7737 if you have info about this identity. Don't forget to share!

One of our patrol officers just couldn't resist stopping at a lemonade stand recently 👍🏽. Best wishes to these young Lenexa entrepreneurs!

If you were planning on coming out to the concert tonight, please make note that it is cancelled. Our thoughts are with the family.

Congrats to these five officers who just successfully completed all of their training and have been released for solo patrol duties! That was 4 months of police academy, 1 month of in-house training, and 4 months of Field Training. To celebrate, they cheerfully made breakfast for their team!

This great group of American Heritage Girls recently brought a ton of goody bags for us to enjoy! Gracious acts like this are so encouraging to us! We love Lenexa!

Hear from some of our team about why they love serving our community.

Take a look to see if you can help our friends Olathe Police Department identify crime suspects.

This Saturday is the City's last September to Remember event. The night will be filled with food trucks, live music and fireworks. To ensure that this is a safe celebration, we have set up a drop off and pick up location on Penrose for car services. So, if you decide to Uber, Lyft, zTrip or use any other car service set your final destination as 8700 Penrose. See you Saturday!

Hope you had as much fun at LenEXPO on Saturday as we did! Thanks for coming out to see us!

Thank you to Grant and Morea for challenging the City of Lenexa to collect as many items as we could for the Texas Diaper Bank. You brought us so much stuff, we couldn't contain the collections to just our lobby! Even some of our offices overflowed! The truck to Texas should be pulling out next week and we hope to have a full report! Thank you again everyone. We are still collecting diapers until the end of the month for the local deport called Happy Bottoms!

We were privileged to be part of the annual Hero Appreciation Day at Trailridge Middle School. Thank you for feeding and honoring us! We love our community! Shawnee Mission School District
