The sheriff's department is getting complaints of people running bus stop signs. We are taking this very seriously and we will be issuing citations for this offense.

If anyone is missing any weedeaters or a chainsaw, and you can identify the items or have the serial numbers, please contact the Martin County Sheriff's Department at 606-298-2828.

We are asking everyone to check to see if they have any power tools missing. We have located some that we believe may be stolen. If you have any missing, please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 606-298-2828 with a description of the items.

Welcome to the world Harlow Elise Kirk!! Harlow is the daughter of volunteer deputy JC Kirk and granddaughter to Sheriff John H. Kirk. She was born on 9/24/18 weighing 7.9 pounds and 20.5 inches long. Harlow has a big sister, Averie, who is over the moon with her. Congratulations to JC Kirk and Danielle Kirk on her arrival.

The Martin County Sheriff's Department would like to thank Cash Express for their delicious cake they brought our department for 9/11. We appreciate this wonderful gesture in remembrance of 9/11.

We have received a complaint about someone coming around to residents in the county saying they are from the social security office. The social security office will not come out to your residence. Please do not give anyone your personal information. If you have someone visit you asking for personal information, call the sheriff's department at 606-298-2828.

If you have community service with the Martin County Sheriff's Department, it is strongly advised that this be completed. The judge issued several arrest warrants for individuals who have not completed it. Most of these individuals were issued 30 days in jail. For any questions, please call 606-298-2828.

The sheriff's department wanted to make the public aware that our department no longer unlocks cars. There is now a business that does this in the county, Newsome's Towing. 606-534-3081. The sheriff's department will only unlock cars in the event of an emergency.

There are many scams going around these days. If someone asks you to send money via google play, please do not do that. The police or courts are not going to ask you over the phone to pay fines or they are going to pick you up. If you have a family member or acquaintance who is arrested, the courts will not call you and ask you to send money via google play.

Martin County Schools are back in session today. Please use extreme caution while driving. These kids are our most precious cargo and we want to ensure their safety. We will continue to do all we can to protect these children.

Please pay attention to any money you receive back in change at a business or if you are a business, please pay attention to any money you accept. We have taken 3 counterfeit 20 dollar bills. ****************************CAPTURED****************************** Mark Allen Crouch has escaped from a Martin County Jail Transport person. He was last seen in a gray crown Vic. These are pictures of him. He has a tattoo on his right neck with Riley and Elisha on his left forearm. Chest area is heavily tatted with Ohio State at the top. He is considered dangerous. He was last seen handcuffed. The sheriff wishes to inform the public that anyone helping or aiding this fugitive, will be prosecuted. He is approximately 6'2" and was last seen wearing shorts, hat and glasses. He also goes by Mark Mills as an alias. PLEASE SHARE! Please be on the lookout for a Martin Co. Jailer vehicle. It is a gray older model Crown Vic with white lettering. Last reported seen in the Route 581 area. It was carjacked by inmate Mark Crouch after he assaulted and overpowered a deputy jailer. Do not approach this vehicle if seen. Call the sheriff's office at 606-298-2828 or dial 911 immediately.
