We receive many reports about scam/fake calls coming from local numbers. When the number is called back, the innocent person on the other end of the line has no idea what the caller is talking about. It is easy for people to use local numbers online to mask their real number and make calls that request information- so easy, in fact, that today our non-emergency number was also used. We urge people to use discretion in all incoming phone calls. If it sounds fraudulent, hang up. If the caller claims to be a company, business, or federal/municipal entity and you have doubts, tell them you will call them back and hang up. Obtain the number from a reliable source, like a phone directory, and check the status of your account yourself. Remember that the police department will always identify themselves as such, and you can always call us back if you need to verify the legitimacy of the call. Don't give out any identifying information over the phone unless you placed the initial call yourself. Thank you and have a safe, wonderful day!

***Our phones are working properly again, our business line 207-288-3391 is accepting calls. ** We are currently experiencing technical issues with our internet and phone connections. To contact us for non emergency issues call the Mt. Desert Police Department at 207-276-5111. As always dial 911 for emergencies. We will update this post when things are repaired.

This map details the 2018 Fourth of July Parade. The black arrows on the red highlighted streets show the parade route. Around 9:45 AM, Police Department personnel will close all roads that intersect with the parade route. Vehicles not participating in the parade will not allowed to drive on or cross the parade route after the 9:45 AM closures. The parade will begin promptly at 10:00 AM. If you are traveling to Bar Harbor for the parade, please leave early and allow for plenty of travel time and time to find a place to park. Traffic is heavy between 8:30 AM and the beginning of the parade. Please obey any and all "no parking" signs you may encounter along the roadways or on private property. Remember that if you are here early enough to park within the boundaries of the parade route on the map, you are here for the duration of the event. The parade starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until the last float turns onto Ledgelawn Ave, which is approximately noontime. Do not leave pets unattended or in parked vehicles. If you have children, please ensure that they are safe by staying out of the path of parade vehicles.
