On Sunday November 18, Carrollton's own, Elizabeth Spencer, will be celebrated in a Mississippi Land and Literature Readings and Remembrances event at the Cotesworth Culture and Heritage Center. This event begins at 2:30 p.m. and is free to the public.

We are looking for any locals who may have had a part in the filming of The Reivers. Whether you were behind the scenes or an extra! There will be a sign up sheet at the Merrill Museum on Saturday, Oct. 6 during the Pilgrimage. Before the viewing of the film that night, all locals will be recognized! The Miss Pioneer Day Pageant will be held on September 22. This pageant is open to all girls ages 0-22! Contestants must reside in Carroll, Leflore, Montgomery, Holmes or Grenada county. In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the filming of The Reivers, the Winton Flyer from the movie will be on display! Steve McQueen called this vehicle “the real star of the picture” and kept it after filming ended. It is currently being housed at the Stahls Automotive Museum in Chesterfield, MI. At 7:30 on Saturday, after the pilgrimage, the movie will be shown at the Tabernacle. The viewing is free, however donations are appreciated. Concessions will be sold by the Carrollton/North Carrollton Volunteer Fire Dept.

Come join us as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the filming of The Reivers with Steve McQueen in Carrollton! During the Pilgrimage and Pioneer Day Festival, October 5-6, we will be showing the movie and recognizing locals who were involved. Visit the Merrill Museum and check out our Hollywood Comes to Carroll County Exhibit.

Everyone is invited to the Veteran's Day Ceremony at the Carrollton Courthouse on Friday, November 10, at 11:00 am. The program will be presented by the Carroll Academy Student Council sponsored as the Douglas Carroll Junior American Citizen Club by the Third Arrow Chapter of the MSSDAR and Carroll veterans under the direction of Command Sergeant Major Ret. Johnny Marlow. Refreshments will be served by the Third Arrow Chapter of the MSSDAR.
