Tillman County Sheriff's Office News

Sheriff Bobby Whittington arrested Robert McDonnel of Davidson on Monday, October 8, 2018 after a lengthy investigation into several burglaries through out Tillman County. In addition to solving those burglaries, Sheriff Whittington was able to recover a stolen trailer from Wilbarger County, Texas. McDonnel is currently being held in the Tillman County Jail awaiting his appearance in District Court.

Today a citizen brought this artillery round to the Sheriff's Office. The citizen said that he had found it in a county road bar ditch east of the weather ball, and had been carrying it around in his vehicle for a couple of days. Fort Sill EOD was contacted to take possession of the round. They said it was a live round that had been fired and still could have detonated under the right conditions. The picture of the shrapnel is part of the round after it was detonated. Folks, military explosives are not something to play around with. If you find something like this, LEAVE it alone and contact the proper authorities!

On September 6, 2018 at approximately 1030pm, Frederick Police Department initiated an investigation of a suspicious vehicle on the south side of Frederick. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle,a F350 Ford dually, the driver attempted to elude the officer. Due to the weather and road conditions encountered by the Frederick officer, the pursuit was terminated. Approximately 20 minutes later, Deputy Michael Ebner encountered the vehicle at Highway 54 & 70 and attempted to stop the vehicle. Once again, the driver attempted to elude. Sheriff Whittington and Undersheriff Burton responded to assist Ebner. The vehicle was pursued into Wilbarger County, Texas where the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A W/F that was a passenger in the vehicle was detained by Tillman County officers. Responding units of the Wilbarger County Sheriff Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety quickly arrived to assist and after a short time, the driver of the vehicle was located hiding in field nearby. The vehicle was found to be stolen from El Reno, Oklahoma. The driver was arrested and transported to the Wilbarger County jail to await extradition back to Tillman County. Excellent job by all the officers involved tonight !

We received information a little while ago, that a Caddo county resident received a call from a person who identified himself as Deputy Tyler James of the Tillman County Sheriff Office. Mr. James wanted her to put $4,000 on a gift card to pay court costs. Folks this is a SCAM. Law Enforcement agencies do not take gift cards and do not make these kind of calls. If you receive one..HANG up and report it to your local law enforcement.

The phone lines are back in service!

A fiber optic phone cable has been cut and it has effected the administration phones at the Sheriff Office. 911 is still operational at this time.

*****UPDATE******* The welder taken in this incident was recovered today by Sheriff Whittington at a location in Kiowa County. All 77 County Sheriff's in the State of Oklahoma are being sued thru a class action lawsuit, because of the use of the Warrant collection program that is authorized by statute. This article does a very good job of showing where the money goes, and it certainly isn't staying in our counties!

Roads are extremely slick and hazardous this morning with more freezing rain expected shortly. PLEASE STAY home and STAY SAFE. If you have to drive, make sure someone knows the route you are going, you have a blanket in your car and plenty of gas. Along with a cell phone charger.

Folks, freezing percipitation is moving into Tillman County, and it looks like it is going to be here awhile. Please, if you don't have too, don't travel unless absolutely necessary.

Here is an update on the tractor theft. Suspects came through Davidson around 230 am. Suspect vehicle appears to be a flatbed pickup with running lights, and it had a light colored small SUV on the trailer. The SUV appears to be a Chevy trailblazer. Around 415 am, the suspect vehicle went south on US 183 through Davidson with the John Deere 7610 on the trailer. The light colored SUV was a couple of seconds behind it. I am posting pictures but the quality isn't that good. I am positive that if this post gets shared enough, someone will recognize the suspect vehicles. Please share! Don't hesitate to contact us with information please. You never know, that piece of information that you think isn't important may be what we need to catch these thieves!

Phone lines are back up at the LEC!

Administrative phone lines are down at the Law Enforcement Center. 911 calls are still operational. Pioneer Telephone is working to fix this issue at this time. We are not able to receive any incoming calls or call out. We will post again as soon as Pioneer has resolved this issue. Thank you for your understanding.

Administrative phone lines are now back in service.

Folks, telephone lines are down at the Law Enforcement Center. 911 is UP and RUNNING. If you need to report a crime, fire, or medical emergency please call 911. If you are just calling to check on an inmate or status of a report, we ask that you wait a while before doing so. Thanks!

Heads up Tillman county.

34 prisoners went to a facility that charges $55.50 per diem to house state prisoners. That equates out to $1,887.00 the state is paying per day. Now, they were paying us $32.50 per diem. We had 60. 60 x $32.50 = $1,950.00 per day. Where is the savings at Governor??

With the loss of the Department of Corrections inmates, this department will be able to operate as normal until the end of April. I have just gotten off the phone with Governor Fallin personally, and explained to her EXACTLY what will happen to our county. She expressed great concern and promised me that she would look into it and get back to me. Not only will we have to make drastic cuts to the Sheriff Office, but if we get evicted from this building, we could lose the county wide 911.

Well folks..every since I took office it has been a constant battle to ensure that we did everything possible to keep the Department of Correction prisoners. Those funds are used to.pay the jail payment and operation costs for the department. I was notified today that the Department of Corrections is terminating our contract due to the state's budget crisis. The letter said the contract would be terminated on April 7th. Rest assured we are.working very hard to.stop this.
