Punxsutawney Police Department News

On 4/27/18 at 1245 am a Dodge Caravan was sideswiped by an oncoming vehicle while traveling North on SR 119 (Indiana Hill). Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating the other vehicle. The vehicle is possibly a 2002-2006 Silver Toyota Camry with damage to the driver side of the vehicle. If you have any information regarding this accident contact Officer Renwick at 814-938-6220 ext. 4125. Update: the vehicle has been located and the Punxsy PD would like to thank the public for the assistance.

From 10am-2pm drop off unused or expired medications at Punxsy Hometown Pharmacy.

Police will be at the Middle School this afternoon to assist with a drill.

The Police are at the High School today only for the drill that is being conducted.

Today Police Responded to the Punxsutawney Area High School for graffiti that indicated a potential bomb threat. Punxsutawney Borough Police, Pennsylvania State Police and Jefferson County Sheriff's K9 unit searched the building with no viable threats located. The hallways were closed for approximately 40 minutes while Police Searched the building.

Punxsutawney Borough Police and Punxsutawney Shop ‘n Save internal security section are conducting a joint investigation into the fraudulent use of credit cards. The individual pictured is a person of interest in the investigation. Anyone who can assist with the identification of this individual is asked to notify Officer Miller at 814-938-6220 ext. 4124. Shop ‘n Save is offering a $500 dollar reward for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the individual(s) involved.

The Punxsutawney Borough Police held the 3rd Annual shop with a cop event on 12/16/2017. This year the department has helped 21 area children receive new clothing items,food and toys for the holiday season. The Police Department would like to thank 4H Barnyard Buddies, Jefferson County EMS, Russel and Mary Craft, Tim Krise, Peebles, Shoe Sensation and WalMart for making this years Shop with a Cop a huge success.

The Punxsutawney Borough Police Department is in the process of transitioning its police dispatch center to Jefferson County 911. Beginning on December 18, 2017 a trial run period will commence where all of the dispatch services will be switched to Jefferson County 911 from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am daily. Starting at 7:00 am on December 28th, 2017 all dispatch services will go through Jefferson County 911 exclusively. The Borough will continue to provide 24 hour police services. For non emergency phone calls, the public can dial 814-938-6220 and be directed through an automated message system. For an emergency, dial 911. As part of the transition, the Borough Civic Center Building will begin its new hours of being open to the public. The building will be open Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The building will also be closed on weekends and holidays.

GOT DRUGS? Turn in unused, expired, unwanted Rx drugs this Saturday, from 10 am - 2pm at Punxsy Hometown Pharmacy 203 Hampton Avenue, Punxsutawney.

Join us on August 1st for America's Night Out Against Crime

Punxsutawney Police Department will be holding a National Night Out event in Barclay Square on August 1st, 3pm-9pm. National Night Out is a community-police awareness-raising event in the United States, held the first Tuesday of August. Organizations in the Punxsutawney area will have tables set up with information to give out to the public. Plans also include having games for children to play, a bounce house, dunk tank, and food available.

Patrolman First Class Heath Zeitler and Patrolman Bill Clement were awarded the Chief of Police Commendation letter following an incident in which they saved a female's life.
