On October 23, 2018, this agency conducted a "Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events" (CRASE) training presentation at the VNA of Hanover. The program is part PowerPoint and part lecture and is based on Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training's (ALERRT) principles of "Avoid, Deny, Defend." Approximately 40 staff members were able to attend the hour-long program which is designed to raise awareness and increase preparedness in an emergency. We want to thank the staff at the VNA of Hanover for being such a welcoming and attentive group. The Conewago Township Police Department can provide this FREE program to any business, club, group or school within the greater Hanover area. We had another great Drug Take Back Program outing today. (10:00am-2:00pm) Our drive-up/curbside pick-up service was much appreciated given the unpleasant weather conditions. Chief McCoy, Sgt. Baumgardner (Conewago Township) Matt Livelsberger (Adam's County Probation & Parole), Mackenzie Wilson (New Oxford High School- Youth Coalition) and Eileen Grenell (Center for Youth & Community Development) all assisted in make the event a success. We are already looking forward to the spring event.

The Township is proud to announce the swearing in of our newest officer, Patrick Lehman. Officer Lehman is a graduate of Spring Grove High School and Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. Although, Officer Lehman comes to us with law enforcement experience he will under go an eight to twelve week field training program with Conewago Township before being assigned a position in the patrol rotation.

On October 22, 2018, a ladies ring was turned over to this agency. The ring was recovered in Sherry Village (Conewago Township). If you have lost a ring in this area, please contact the Conewago Township Police Department. Microsoft Security Update Scam: First, a fake Microsoft warning screen will display on your computer, then you will be directed to call a specific number where you will be asked to provide your banking information to pay for the security update. If you receive this warning, shut down your computer and restart it. This action should clear the warning notice. If you genuinely believe your computer has been hacked or is infected with a virus contact a local IT professional. Do not provide bank account and routing number over the phone.

Applicants must have Act 120 certification or be currently pursuing Act 120—being certified by January 1, 2019; and meet all required MPOETC standards. The hiring process will include the following: a written exam, an individual interview, a comprehensive background investigation, and a physical and psychological evaluation. Our department is comprised of full-time, professional police officers. We provide a very competitive wage, which could range up to that of a “two-year officer”—depending on qualifications and experience—and an excellent benefit package. WARNING!!! If you are contacted by someone claiming to be with a police department requesting a specific amount of money in gift cards to prevent a family member or friend from going to jail or being charged with a crime, it is a SCAM. If you receive such a call and are uncertain if the request is fraudulent, please contact your local police department for assistance and clarification.

Please be advised that Conewago Township and the greater Hanover area is once again being inundated with IRS scam calls. In this scam, the citizen is being told that they will be arrested if they fail to pay taxes owed to the IRS. The IRS will never initiate a tax dispute by phone, only by mail. Any call you receive from someone claiming to be with the IRS is a SCAM. Do not engage with the caller and hang-up. If you are uncertain if a call is fraudulent, we ask that you first check with your police agency before releasing funds or personal information.

Chief McCoy and Sgt. Baumgardner conducted the Township's second drug take back day on Saturday afternoon. We had another great turn out, filling six boxes with unused and expired medications. Thanks to all the wonderful people that we had the pleasure of meeting. Conewago Township will be holding another drug take back day in the fall, we look forward to see you then.

This Department has received notification of a phone scam in which the subject claims to be from Met-Ed/First Energy Company demanding money for an overdue electric bill. The subject will threaten to turn your power off if immediate cash payment is not made. If you receive such a call, please contact your service provider to confirm that your account is up to date.
