Tomorrow on November 3, 2018 from 10 AM – 3PM members of the Pearland Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association PCPAAA, and the Pearland Police Department SWAT team will be at the Bass Pro Shops in Pearland during the Kids’ Fishfest hosted by Bass Pro Shops (Pearland) and the Brazoria County Parks Department. The PCPAAA will be selling gun raffle tickets, and the SWAT team will have the MRAP vehicle on site for viewing.

CPA Class #47 Week 9 just finished SWAT night at the Pearland Police Department. Tonight the class learned about Hostage Negotiations from Officer C. Rogers and Officer J. Wells. The class was then treated to a class about the Tactical Team by Lt. D. Dunham, Officer T. Boutwell, and Officer R. Layton. Pearland Police Department's Captain Kevin Nichols is a nationally-recognized instructor for the Texas State University-based Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training program (ALERRT). ALERRT- is dedicated to training law enforcement and civilians to respond to active shooter and other critical incidents. The ALERRT program is currently hosting a conference in Grapevine, Texas where some of the best international instructors and presenters are sharing debriefs, best practices and lessons learned from headline-grabbing national and international critical incidents. Captain Nichols' gave a presentation today on the response to the May 18th Santa Fe High School incident. We are proud to have Captain Nichols as a member of our department!

The sound of demolition at the Pearland Police Department marks a major step in the construction of the Pearland Officers Memorial Garden. A huge thank you to J.T.B. Services Inc for donating the demolition part of this project.

On October 22, 2018 Class #5 of the Pearland Teen Citizen Police Academy graduated after concluding the six week program. Class #5 graduated 24 students who attended periods of instruction such as Traffic Stops and Crime Scene Procedures. Pearland Police Department Jailer Promoted - After a very competitive interview process, Jailer C. Odom was selected to one of two Lead Jailer positions with the Pearland Police Department. Jailer C. Odom attended Lamar University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders in 2005. After finishing school, Jailer C. Odom decided to pursue a career in corrections. Odom worked as a corrections officer for TDCJ at a maximum security prison for about a year before obtaining a job working for Harris County Juvenile Probation Department as a Juvenile Supervision Officer. Jailer Odom joined the Pearland Police Department in 2014 and continued her education. Jailer Odom is expecting to graduate with her Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice in May of 2019. Pearland Police Department Jailer Promoted - After a very competitive interview process, Jailer C. Dejohn was selected to fill one of two Lead Jailer positions with the Pearland Police Department. Jailer C. Dejohn has been with the Pearland Police Department since 2010 and in that time says he feels he has grown to be able to fill a leadership position as he has performed his duties as a Jailer. Jailer C. Dejohn looks forward to continuing to grow as he continues his career with the Pearland Police Department. Please join us in congratulating Jailer C. Justice of the Peace Gordon Starkenburg Retires - The Pearland Police Department bids farewell to Judge Gordon Starkenburg on his last days of service to the Pearland community. Judge Starkenburg has served the citizens of Pearland as Justice of the Peace since May 11, 2004 and in his 14 years he has heard countless traffic and other Class C misdemeanor cases, civil cases, performed magistrate duties for thousands of inmates, and conducted inquests at all hours of the day and night. The Pearland Police Department would like to thank Judge Starkenburg for his dedicated service and wishes him well as he transitions to his next great adventures in retirement.

October 16, 2018 the Pearland Police Department hosted a retirement ceremony for Pearland Police Lieutenant Javier Caballero. Family, friends, local dignitaries, and co-workers were on hand to bid him a bittersweet farewell. Chief of Police J. Spires shared heartfelt personal stories about Lt. Caballero and Mayor Tom Reid read a Proclamation declaring October 16, 2018 as Lt. Javier Caballero day in the City of Pearland. Lieutenant Caballero has served Pearland as a police officer for past 39 years. We wish you health and happiness in your retirement.

On Monday, October 8th 2018, the Pearland Police Department’s Honor Guard presented the “Colors” to kick off the opening ceremonies for the 100 Club’s Annual Golf Tournament. Colors were presented by Ofc. E. Dotson, Lt. D. Dunham, Det. R. Paquette, and Ofc. C. Rogers.
