Plano Police Department News

Thank you to each and every one of our Veterans who fought for our freedom. We thank you for your dedicated service to this great country.

With two reported Active Shooter incidents this week in our country, we felt it would be a good time to share our Active Shooter Training Preparedness video again. Although each Active Shooter incident is unique, this video will provide you with some very important safety tips and lifesaving measures that would apply to any incident. Many of these tragic incidents can't be avoided but being prepared in advance could save your life or the lives of others.

Big event around the corner! Since 1984, employees of the Plano Police Department have been providing Christmas to families with kids who may not otherwise have one. Each year, the non-profit organization delivers food, winter coats, toys and bikes to families in need. We are proud of all the accomplishments from our employees and volunteers as they continue to make Plano a better place to live. We thank Main Event and Operations Manager Dawn for all their work in organizing this Christmas Cops benefit. Please share and pass the word as the Christmas Cops program relies solely on donations from the community. You can find out more about the program at Thanks for all your support over the years.

Did you know you are more likely to be killed or seriously injured in our city in a traffic crash than any other way? Statistically, side-impact crashes are the most dangerous and most of these occur from red-light runners. Officer Bianez wants to stress the importance of always being alert at intersections to help keep everyone safe. #SafetyMinute #TrafficTips #SaferPlano #GreenDoesNotAlwaysMeanGo #RedAlwaysMeansStop

Sadly, there have been recent reports across the nation related to children being struck by another vehicle at school bus stops. For that reason, we want to remind everyone to ALWAYS be alert and obey the laws involving school buses and stops. Let take the extra steps to make sure our children are kept safe. Texas School Bus Law •Stop for flashing red lights on a school bus, regardless of which direction you're headed. •Continue your trip once the bus has moved, the flashing lights stop flashing or the bus driver signals it's okay to pass. •Violations can lead to a $1,000 fine. Safety Tips for Motorists •Obey the posted speed limit and focus on the roadway. •Fines double in school zones. •Keep an eye on children gathered at bus stops. •Watch for children who might dart across the street to catch the bus. Tips for Students Respect your school bus driver and follow these rules: •Stand far back when you are waiting for the bus. •Sit still so the driver can pay attention to the road. •Look both ways if you have to cross the street after getting off the bus, or wait for the driver to signal it's safe to cross the street.

Don’t forget! Make sure you turn your clocks back one hour before going to bed tonight. Also, let show appreciation for our safety partners at Plano Fire-Rescue and change those smoke detector batteries today. It only takes a few minutes and it could save your life. #fallback #ChangeTheBatteries #SaferPlano #CityOfExcellence

Thank you Goldreich Orthodontics for organizing this Teddy Bear drive - October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Unfortunately, we respond to several of these calls each year and many times, children are involved. One of the things our officers do is provide a teddy bear to these children. It provides them a sense of comfort during an otherwise stressful and sad situation. These teddy bears are provided to us by citizens and businesses, just like Goldreich Orthodontics. If you get the chance, please stop by their office located at 3105 Legacy Dr suite A, in Plano (near Legacy and Independence). Feel free to drop off a bear and tell them thank you for helping make a difference. recently published their "2018 Best Suburbs to Live in America" online. The City of Plano, Texas Government ranked #46 overall but was the highest ranked city in America with a population over 200,000.
