Edmonds Police Department News

See attached Media Release regarding the police response for the EWHS threats situation from yesterday. Thank you to Edmonds School District for your partnership in keeping our youth safe.

Good morning to our Edmonds-Woodway HS students, parents and staff! We want you to feel safe (and be safe), so you will be seeing extra officers in the area and on campus. @EdmondsSchools

Update for EWHS incident: We have found the source of the photo and how this all started. It is not a photo of a local student. It was a photo from someone out of state that was relabeled with “Woodway” and sent to a small group chat. It clearly got out of that group. We have made contact with the source of today’s photo and the school district is aware. We take these matters seriously and will determine if charges will be filed. You can still expect extra police presence on campus tomorrow.

We were made aware of a picture circulating the EWHS campus today that has many concerned about the possibility of school violence. We began investigating it immediately. We are unable to determine where it originated from and the credibility of any threat at this time. We have been working with our Edmonds School District partners since the onset of the investigation. We will be providing additional police presence in and around the campus tomorrow.

Lots of roads closed downtown in area of 5/Main to make #halloween safe for our #TrickOrTreating guests. Slow down and look both ways!

NOTE: This video contains images of a man walking around inside a store, touching himself under his clothing. His genitals are not visible, but it is clear what he is doing. We are posting this in hopes someone will be able to identify him. This person is the suspect in the sexual assault of a 9 year old girl in the Ranch 99 Market on 9-15-18. The video posted here is from the H-Mart Store in Lynnwood, WA. The suspect was seen there just over one hour after the incident in Edmonds. https://youtu.be/kSxjswGQqK4

UPDATE (Ranch 99 Sexual Assault). An anonymous tip led us to the H-Mart in Lynnwood. Same suspect tried to assault another girl ONE HOUR LATER! That incident was never reported. If you were the person that submitted the tip, PLEASE CONTACT US. We need to find this guy. Still no ID despite a lot of tips. Here are better images. New video coming soon.

"Officer" Earl Yamane is now "Corporal" Earl Yamane. He was sworn in last night at the city council meeting by Chief Compaan.

We share information and suspect images in an effort to inform the public and seek information that will help us bring a suspect or suspects to justice. Name calling or other derogatory statements do nothing to help a victim heal or help our investigators put the pieces together. We want and need your support and information but you can leave the other stuff out. Please see our usage policy for more information.

Here is a short video clip of yesterday’s sexual assault suspect.
