Teton County Sheriff's Office News

Reminder!

The Teton County Sheriff’s Office has once again received multiple reports of scam phone calls. The caller purports themselves to be IRS agents or other federal agents calling from Washington DC. The callers claim to have an arrest warrant for the victim. They will attempt to have the victim purchase gift cards in order to cancel the warrant. Do not provide any information to these callers. The calls are a scam. No law enforcement agency anywhere will ever request you obtain gift cards in order to clear a warrant. Be aware these scammers can “spoof” a phone number to make it look like the calls are originating from a legitimate government agency. If you are in doubt about the call, please hang-up and call the agency direct by their publicly listed phone number. If you have received a scam phone call you can report it online at www.FTC.gov. If you have suffered a monetary loss you can file a report with the Teton County Sheriff’s Office. Be vigilant. Don’t become a victim!

The Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center has issued an Avalanche Warning through 6 PM tonight, and the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning through 5 PM. Yesterday, a skier died in an avalanche to the south of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The Wyoming Department of Transportation fired the GazEx’s on Teton Pass, which resulted in a large slide out of Glory Bowl that has impacted the road. This slide and the potential for more activity will keep Teton Pass closed for most of the day. Temperatures are starting out around 10 degrees warmer that yesterday morning. Both natural and human triggered avalanches involving the recent snowfall will be very likely today. The loading event over the last several days will also increase the likelihood of triggering large to very large, persistent deep slab avalanches. These destructive avalanches could also release naturally. For more information please visit: http://jhavalanche.org
