It feels like fall may finally be here! Here are a few safety tips for fall: 1. Never leave windows open when you are not home. 2. Consider purchasing surveillance cameras or putting up additional lighting outside. 3. Take notice of overgrown shrubbery and trim bushes that provide cover for would-be burglars. 4. Avoid walking alone at night, or only walk in well lit areas. 5. When you walk, keep your head up and pay attention to your surroundings.
Stay safe this Halloween! 🤡👿🎃💀👻
1. Make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked when you aren’t home. 2. Leave a light and a t.v. or radio on when you are gone. 3. If you are going to be away for several days, have someone check on your home each day and take your mail out of your mailbox. 4. Put some lights on a timer if you will not be returning until after dark. 5. Always be alert for suspicious activity and report it immediately to your local police.
One of the most common calls we receive is about illegally parked cars. Here are a few key points to help you determine if a car is illegally parked: 1. Cars cannot be parked on sidewalks 2. Cars cannot be parked within 7 feet of a driveway, unless the homeowner approves 3. Cars cannot be parked within 20 feet of an intersection or within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. Parking can be tough, especially on some of the more narrow streets in Atlantic Beach. The list above is not all inclusive, so if you believe a car is illegally parked, please call 247 5859 with a descriptiion of the vehicle and the exact location. We will dispatch an officer to take a look.

In addition to Florida being a great place to enjoy the sun and surf, Florida's beaches are important nesting areas for sea turtles and the sand dunes are home to many unique plants and animals. The sand dunes along Atlantic Beach can be severely damaged by beachgoers who walk over the dunes and destroy the plants that are growing there. Dune vegetation (plants) like sea oats are very important. The roots and blades of these plants will help hold the sand in place and reduce the amount of dune erosion. Sea oats are able to withstand harsh salty and windy conditions, but they cannot survive a great deal of trampling. Please help protect the sand dunes by using walkovers to access the beach.

Hurricane Michael update: We should expect 1-2" rain with some isolated areas getting more. Winds are expected to be 25-30 mph sustained with gusts possibly 40-50 mph. Winds are expected to pick up Wednesday between morning and afternoon and continue until Thursday. There is the possibility of tornadoes during portions of the hurricane bands coming through the area. There may be some minor coastal flooding, particularly at high tide. Minor beach erosion may occur. There is a high surf and dangerous rip current advisory currently in effect. We are not expected to come under a tropical storm watch/warning. ABPD will have extra Officers on duty, however we do not anticipate any major issues!
Tomorrow (Wednesday) is walk & roll to school day! We encourage all students to walk or ride their bike to school. Hopefully the rain will hold off long enough to make this annual event promoting health and safety possible! 🚴🏾♂️🚴🏿♀️🚶🏼♀️🏃🏽♂️
