Apalachicola Police Department News

A care package for us received today from the League City Police Department in Texas, survivors of Hurricane Harvey. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!

A letter from the Chief: Although there is much still to do and we are far from normality; I wanted to take a moment to thank my officers. Each of them have stepped up above and beyond what the "job description" calls for. These men and women have stepped in to help the road department, water department, Duke Energy, homeowners and business owners, they have picked up and wielded chain saws, removed debris, helped relocate, offered assistance of food and water, many times going without themselves. They have worked around the clock with no sleep, being away from their families, away from their own homes. Taking care of others sometimes even before their own needs. To each of you: Lt. Lewis, Lt. Turner, Lt. Davis, Sgt Richards, Officer Creamer and Officer Smith, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. To the community: If you see one of these officers around, take a moment to say thank you and let them know how much they are appreciated. Thank you! Chief Bobby Varnes

Please be aware of a recent influx of phone scams. Most recent has been a disturbing call demanding money to see a loved one not be harmed. It is reported that you can hear a female, or child screaming in the back ground. This is a scam! Please never offer money over the phone. If you receive one of these calls, please call us and report it!

Everyone please have a safe Memorial Day weekend with the impending nasty weather....Remember those who gave all....

Our sincerest thoughts and prayers for comfort goes out to the victims and families of the Santa Fe, Texas school shooting.

If anyone knows Joe Emerson? His Cell phone was turned in to A.P.D this morning. It was found in the park. Thank you!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of another fallen officer.

We send our heartfelt condolences to the families, co-workers and the community of Deputy Lindsey and Sgt. Ramirez. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Writers note: I had the opportunity to meet Deputy Lindsey this past weekend, while in his county for a wedding. My immediate impression of him was he was a man of character, compassion and kindness. He was a soft spoken young man with a firm handshake and kind, caring eyes. It was an honor to have met him, if only briefly.

This mornings Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Happy Easter from all of us here at A.P.D. Everyone stay safe this busy holiday!

This is why we do what we do! Two awesome kids that raise money and support police officers! They both want to be in law enforcement when they grow up, so Chief Varnes sent them a letter of encouragement and a patch!
