Be advised that a General Population Shelter will open at the Lafayette County High School Cafeteria at 6:00 pm on Tuesday on October 9th, 2018. Suggested items to bring to the shelter are bedding, pillow, extra clothing, medications, non-perishable food, small flashlight and children’s needs if applicable. Things not to bring and are prohibited include alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, and weapons. Should you have any questions, please call 386-294-1950 or 386-294-1957.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), is scheduled to conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018. The WEA portion of the test, which will be sent to consumer cell phones, beginning at 2:18 p.m. EDT. The EAS portion of the test, will be sent to radio and television stations at 2:20 p.m. EDT. The test is intended to ensure public safety officials have the methods and systems that will deliver urgent alerts and warnings to the public in times of an emergency or disaster, including requirements to help ensure that televised EAS messages are accessible to individuals with disabilities.
