We are proud to announce that today we swore in a new Boynton Beach Police Officer, Cara Cardarelli. In addition, we are sponsoring three recruits who started the police academy at Palm Beach State College today. Recruits Mario Gomez and Kareem Thomas participated in the Hiring Combine that we hosted in July. Recruit Lyndsay Flora has worked for the agency since 2007, first as a dispatcher and most recently as an administrative associate. On October 10, 2018 BBPD recovered a skimmer from the BP gas station located at 3510 W. Boynton Beach Blvd. The skimmer had the number 6 written on one side, which may indicate that there are at least five others attached to gas pumps or ATMs. To report further information regarding the skimmers please call Boynton Beach Police at 561-732-8116.

The defendant in this case, John Joseph O'Grady, 61, of Boynton Beach, was sentenced today to 4 months in prison and one year of supervised release, by U.S. District Judge Robin L. Rosenberg, after previously pleading guilty to falsely impersonating a Deputy U.S. Marshal. We join U.S. Attorney Ariana Fajardo Orshan in commending the U.S. Marshals and BBPD Officers Moreno, Martens and Felitti for their investigative efforts. Boynton Beach Police responded to the rear of 505 N. Railroad Avenue today at approximately 12:23 p.m. in reference to a fight in progress. While in route to the location information was received that a subject had been shot. Upon arrival it was determined that a fight had occurred and one of the subjects involved in the fight shot another subject. All parties remained on scene and the investigation is on-going. The person shot was transported to Delray Medical Center as a trauma alert and is currently in stable condition.

Since the beginning of this year, 49 guns have been stolen from cars in the City of Boynton Beach. The Boynton Beach Police Department is committed to working with gun owners to keep their firearms safe and out of the hands of criminals. We have a limited number of gun locks available to give away free of charge. If you live in the City of Boynton Beach, you can pick up a gun lock at our substation, 209 N. Seacrest Blvd., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. A gun lock will prevent a criminal from being able to use the firearm, but it won't stop them from stealing the weapon. Please be a responsible gun owner and if you must leave your firearm in a car, make sure it is in a secured safe that is out of plain view. We also encourage you to write down the gun's serial number so that you can provide it to police if your firearm is ever stolen. Finally, lock your car doors. More than half of the guns stolen this year were from cars that had been left unlocked. The last thing you want is for your gun to be stolen and then used in a crime where someone is hurt or killed. The best crime prevention is YOU. #SaferBoyntonBeach
