Banks County Sheriff's Office News

As our stats have come in, we wanted to be sure and provide our citizens with a little run down on our yearly Halloween enforcement. From 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Halloween night, law enforcement personnel were able to check in with a large number of the 74 registered sex offenders in our jurisdiction. Not only did we have assistance from probation and parole, we also had additional patrol deputies and investigators out in full force checking in with the sex offenders that reside in Banks County. We are happy to report that no violations were found.

Keep our own Deputy Ken Mize in your prayers. His open surgery went well and he is now in recovery. We know that any and all prayers will be greatly appreciated by him and his family!

Today, Officer Antwan Toney reported for duty to serve the citizens of Gwinnett County for the very last time. At 30 years old and almost 3 years of service, his end of watch came way too soon. As we take a moment to reflect, we not only think of Officer Toney but also of the ones with tear-soaked faces and broken hearts that will never be the same. May the Lord surround Officer Toney's family (blood and blue) with His mighty arms of strength and peace. If you have ever wanted to see the face of a hero, look below. We would like to express our tremendous gratitude to the management and staff of LongHorn Steakhouse of Commerce (Banks Crossing) for the wonderful meal that they provided for all of our staff this evening. It was a positively delicious treat!

I-85 is now clear. Thank you again for your patience.

*****TRAFFIC ALERT***** I-85 Northbound is shut down in the area of mile marker 153. Please avoid this area if at all possible. Traffic is being diverted off of Exit 149 (Banks Crossing) to Highway 59. Traffic will then be able to return to I-85 in Franklin County at Exit 166. Due to the detour, expect extensive delays. Thank you for your patience.

Our deepest condolences are with the family of Ofc. Carraway and our prayers go out to the other SC officers who were shot in this terrible event. May they recover quickly and return to hold the thin blue line. #prayforflorence

Good morning, In partnership with Banks County School System, the Sheriff's Office is investigating a threat against specified students. Unfortunately, these types of crimes occur throughout every school year but rest assured, we always give our notorious aggressive persistance and earnest efforts when such arises. Those involved with this incident have been notified. As we do in every incident such as this, we will undoubtedly strive to arrest those involved. Over the last year, your sheriff's office and school system have developed and implemented a program to enhance the safety of our students and the buildings in which they learn. Please know that we will always place our children's safety first in Banks County.

Please join us today as we pause to commemorate those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, as well as those who have lost their lives since that date due to related illnesses and injuries. Even though it has been 17 years since the attacks, the memories are still fresh. May we never forget those who were lost. #neverforget
