Auburn Police Department News

SCAM ALERT: The City of Auburn Police Department would like to make the public aware of a financial scam being perpetrated throughout the nation. It has come to our attention that inmates housed in correctional facilities have been attempting to obtain funds from people by representing themselves as law enforcement officials. The suspects are calling the victims and informing them of an outstanding warrant for their arrest. The victims are instructed to obtain a pre-paid credit card, specifically a GREEN DOT card, so as to avoid being arrested. Law enforcement officials will NEVER contact a person and attempt to collect any money via telephone. If you receive a call similar to the incident described above, you are encouraged to contact your local law enforcement agency. Do NOT provide your credit card or banking account information or any personal information such as your social security number or your mother’s maiden name, to anyone you are not 100% certain is legitimate. If you do receive a phone call from anyone requesting any financial information, you are encouraged to verify the company’s legitimacy through trusted resources such as the Better Business Bureau. You are also encouraged to get the business name, the caller’s name and a number to call the company back. While matters such as this can be difficult to prosecute, as a community we can work together to reduce the chances of people becoming victims. Please feel free to contact the City of Auburn Police Department at 770-513-8657 with any questions.

One of Auburn’s Own We were saddened to learn that Auburn’s very own Officer Missy Norwood’s home was destroyed in a fire yesterday. While the home was a complete loss, Officer Norwood, her husband and daughter are all safe. For that, we are very thankful. We have had several requests from the community on how to help. An account has been set up at Community and Southern Bank for anyone wishing to make a donation to assist them. The account is under Norwood Family Fund and donations can be made at any branch. Our prayers and thoughts are with the Norwoods during this most difficult time.
