Chamblee Police Department News

Last Monday, officers and staff from Chamblee PD, City of Doraville Police Department, and Rockdale County Sheriff's Office personally delivered items that were donated by our local community to Donalsonville, GA and Panama City, FL. Both areas were extremely affected by Hurricane Michael and sustained significant damage. In Donalsonville, the group stopped at the New Hope Worship Assembly and dropped off supplies. In Panama City, they split into two groups and passed out more supplies. The group ventured into Mexico Beach to help, as well. Finally, before heading home, they stopped at a house owned by a retired Dekalb County PD Lieutenant and helped him move all of his belongings out of the house. We would not have been able to make the trip if it wasn’t for our selfless community! Thank you all for the donations. It was a very rewarding experience. Here are some photos from the trip...

ATTENTION: The Chamblee Police Department has been made aware of a RING notification that warned Chamblee residents of a shooting on McDaniel Street near Plantation Ln. This was sent out erroneously and the incident occurred at a different McDaniel Street in the City of Atlanta. We are not dealing with any major incidents in the city at this time.

Armed Robber didn’t anticipate our response time! Last night, a man armed with a handgun and wearing a ski mask robbed the CVS on Peachtree Blvd. and then fled on foot down N. Peachtree Road. Officer Sammy John was there in seconds and quickly spotted him. After a foot chase and some help from Sgt. Lyons, he was in custody with the ski mask, handgun, and the stolen cash still on his person. Way to go Officer John and Sgt. Lyons!

Welcome Officer Mellies!!

UPDATE: Arturo has been located (safe and sound). The Chamblee Police Department is currently searching for a 15 year old autistic child in the area of 4231 North Shallowford Road. Arturo Rodriguez Hernandez was last seen around 5:30 p.m. wearing a blue sweat shirt/pants and red, white and blue sneakers. He is 5’9 inches tall and weighs 200 lbs. He can speak however, he will not respond verbally to people he doesn’t know unless you tell him that Maribel or Sergio are looking for him. Chamblee Police is asking that any sightings or information regarding Arturo’s whereabouts is reported to the Chamblee Police Department at 770-986-5000. Arturo is known to frequent Huntley Hills Park and the surrounding area.

If you see something, say something. Last night Chamblee Police Department officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call in Huntley Hills. The caller provided a great vehicle/suspect description and as a result, the officers located the vehicle. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle however, the suspects fled. After a pursuit, the suspects left the vehicle then tried to leave the area in a Lyft. Officers apprehended them, and all suspects will be charged with multiple felonies based on items found in the car. The persons arrested are suspected of being involved in entering autos throughout DeKalb County (to include Chamblee, Dunwoody, Brookhaven and Doraville). We applaud the resident who called and made this happen. Thank you!

A large crowd gathered Sunday at Plaza Fiesta for the annual Mexican Independence Day celebration. The total attendance for the entire event was over 60,000! Chief Beller had the opportunity to address the crowd in Spanish on behalf of the police department. He discussed community policing and the strong relationship, based on trust and mutual respect, between the Chamblee Police Department and our local Latino community. He ran into a friend, Esmeralda, who he took a picture with at this same event last year. It looks like she’s gotten taller, and he’s gotten grayer… 😀 Plaza Fiesta
