On November 10, 2018, officers with the Atlanta Police Department who have served in the Army, Air Force and Marines marched in the 37th Annual Atlanta Veterans Day Parade. This is the first time APD's veterans participated in the event and the officers enjoyed being recognized for their service to our country. Thank you to everyone who came out to support those who have fought for our freedom in the U.S. military.

SEEKING SUSPECT: Atlanta Police needs your help in identifying a suspect accused of stealing over $61,000 from someone's bank account. The man was captured on surveillance video going to multiple SunTrust banks and fraudulently withdrawing cash from the victim's account. If you know about the suspect's whereabouts call Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477). Persons can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a $2,000 reward.

APD ARRESTS: The Atlanta Police Department’s Zone 2 (North Atlanta) Officers have had a busy week making significant arrests and getting weapons off the street. On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, Zone 2 officers received information that a vehicle which was taken during a Dekalb County robbery, was spotted at Lenox Mall. Officers located the stolen car in the parking lot and observed three juvenile males attempting to enter the vehicle. At that time, officers approached the males and they were detained. Further investigation revealed that the male attempting to enter the driver seat did have possession of the vehicle’s key, which was taken in the Dekalb robbery. Officers also located a handgun under the driver seat of the vehicle. Officers were able to make an arrest without incident, recover a stolen vehicle and a handgun. All three of the males were 17 years old. On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, Zone 2 officers observed a male with a backpack enter the driver seat of a stolen vehicle at 200 Colonial Homes Dr. Officers were able to approach and arrest 23-year-old Dayquan Jackson (pictured below) without incident. Inside of the backpack, officers located marijuana and a handgun magazine. Underneath the driver seat of the vehicle, officers located a handgun. Also inside of the vehicle, officers located multiple identification cards that did not belong to Jackson. One of these ID cards was able to be tracked to the victim of a separate crime. Again, Zone 2 officers were able to make an arrest without incident, recover a stolen vehicle, a hand gun, and narcotics, and gather leads for a separate crime. #AtlantaPolice #WeCatchBadGuys #GoodWork
FYI: The 37th Annual Atlanta Veterans Day Parade will be on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 at 11:11 a.m. in Downtown Atlanta. The parade begins on Peachtree St. south of Ralph McGill/Ivan Allen Blvd. The parade will proceed south on Peachtree Street, turn right on Baker Street towards Centennial Olympic Park, The World of Coca Cola, and Georgia Aquarium. It will continue on Baker Street and turn left onto Marietta Street. The parade will end at the intersection of Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Marietta Street. APD ARREST: Atlanta Police Department Zone 5 officers arrested 22-year-old Khalil Moten in connection to three burglaries in Midtown and Sherwood Forest. Moten was located after an officer responded to a suspicious person call near 7th St. and Glendale Terr. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Moten was carrying a roller suitcase with him that contained items stolen from recent burglaries. Khalil Moten was charged with Prowling and three counts of Burglary. Moten has been arrested once for burglary and two times damage to property in Alabama. #AtlantaPolice #WeCatchBadGuys
APD PROUD: ***Viewer discretion is advised*** On September 27, 2017, Atlanta Police Officer Mason Mercure saved a carjacking suspect's life after the suspect led officers on a chase and shot at them. Officer Mercure was awarded with the Meritorious Service Award at Crime is Toast in October of 2018 for the lifesaving deed of applying a tourniquet to the suspect. APD ARREST: Atlanta Police Zone 5 officers have arrested 27-year-old Donald Winters in connection to more than 10 car break-ins on Nov. 5, 2018 at 21 Larkin Place SW in the Castleberry Hill neighborhood. A photo of the suspect was captured on surveillance and was distributed to our officers. Later in the day on November 5, we were alerted that the suspect was seen in the area around Artist Square. A canvass of Castleberry Hill neighborhood by Officer Walker located the suspect near the intersection of Fair St. and Peters St. where he was taken into custody without incident. Winters was found to be wanted on two outstanding arrest warrants out of Gwinnett and DeKalb counties. Winters has a total of 17 prior arrests for a range of offenses including burglary. Winters is charged with Entering Automobile (11 Counts), Theft by Taking, Firearm, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of Marijuana. #WeCatchBadGuys #GoodWork #AtlantaPolice
On this day, six years ago, The Atlanta Police Department lost two pilots in a horrible helicopter crash. As they searched for a missing child, the helicopter crashed near the intersection of M. L. King near H. E. Holmes. We will ALWAYS remember our fallen brothers Officer Richard Halford and Officer Shawn Smiley. We love you both, we miss you and continue to watch over us as you patrol the skies of heaven.
APD ARREST: Atlanta Police Department Gun Assault Unit has arrested 19-year-old Gabrielle Burnett in connection to the shooting of a Clark Atlanta student on Sept. 25, 2018. Further investigation revealed that the victim had a brief encounter with the suspect prior to the shooting at 1084 Lucile Ave SW. Detectives were able to identify and secure warrants for the suspect who turned herself in and was transported to Fulton County Jail. Burnett has been charged with Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS: Atlanta Police Department has tips for trick-or-treaters and their parents headed out to collect candy over the next few hours! Please keep in mind all of these tips: • Drive slowly through neighborhoods • Cross streets at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks • Look left and right before crossing streets • Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights and add reflective gear to costumes • Use face paint and makeup if possible instead of masks, which can limit child’s vision • Make sure costumes fit to prevent trips and falls • Remember to stay alert and vigilant • If you see something suspicious, call 911 immediately and an officer will respond #HappyHalloween #TrickorTreat #WeLoveATL #Atlanta

APD PROUD: Smokey, the dog rescued from an apartment fire by Atlanta Police officers on the night of January 7, 2018, now has a forever home. Animal Cruelty Liaison, Senior Police Officer Amy Soeldner, Officer Robert Winkler and Officer Austin Denninger were honored for their heroic efforts by receiving the inaugural Beyond the Badge award at Crime is Toast in October of 2018. Smokey was adopted from PAWS Atlanta by Emily Sarros and she told us, "Thank you to Atlanta Police Department, Atlanta Fire and Rescue and Grady for giving us Smokey, the cutest dog anyone could ever ask for." APD ALERT: MARTA Police Department will host the region’s largest emergency preparedness exercise on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 beginning at 10:30 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning at MARTA’s Dome Station. Atlanta Police Department will be participating in the exercise along with several other federal, state and local law enforcement partners. Please be advised, people within the five-mile radius of the MARTA Dome Station may hear loud noises and see heavy police activity as part of this year's exercise. Beginning at 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 27, service on the east and westbound Green and Blue rail service lines will be interrupted. MARTA will establish a bus bridge to bypass Dome Station and the exercise. Patrons utilizing the bus bridge will be directed to exit at Vine City Station or Five Points Station and board a MARTA bus that will take them to the next available station.
