Oconee County Sheriff's Office News

We honor and support all Veterans today. On behalf of all the men and women at the Sheriff’s Office we thank you for putting it all on the line for this great country. God Bless each of you!

Word has it that there is a water main break in the area of Jimmy Daniel and Meriweather. We tried putting handcuffs on it, but that didn't fix it. Hopefully, somebody who knows something about water mains will happen along and fix it. Please, please, please do not call the Sheriff's Office to inquire about water service being restored. Your call will roll to a dispatcher, and they have absolutely no control over such things.

Today is the 243rd birthday of the Marine Corps..and as the son of a Marine I want to take this day to wish all Marines and their families a HAPPY BIRTHDAY....now, go out and break something!!!!

If you or your business is hosting an event for Veterans on 11-11-2018 feel free to post it below. Whether it is a meal or some other service we would be happy to advertise it here for you. Try to keep this post and replies on topic.

Polls are open until 7 pm exactly. If you are in line at 7, you can still vote. If you are late, you will NOT BE ABLE TO VOTE. Please, EXERCISE your right under the Georgia Constitution and GO VOTE!!!!

Steven Allen, one of our employee family, expresses his appreciation for the outpouring off support and kindness extended to him on the loss of his daughter last week.

The elections officials are telling us that people are showing up at the wrong polling places. Use the link in the shared post below to find your polling place. Just because your child attends one of the schools that is a polling place, it doesn't mean that is where you vote. Refer all of your inquiries regarding the elections to the Board of Elections and Registrations.

Election Day update: North Oconee, Malcolm Bridge Middle, Colham Ferry Elementary and Athens Academy are all polling locations for Oconee County voters. Expect increased traffic issues, folks you don't know in car rider lines and people who generally don't know how to navigate around school traffic. Be patient. You may want to plan to get to school a bit early tomorrow. This post is designed to help reduce road rage and not add to it. Y'all need to be good neighbors tomorrow, or at least have a second cup of coffee.

The suspect posted earlier has been captured.

No more people will be allowed into the early voting line after 5:00PM.

Cpl Marchman and Lt Smith talking to the children at Faith Presbyterian Church today. The children were very excited and decorated their hallway for us.

It is heartbreaking to report that one of our jail officers, Steve Allen, lost his daughter yesterday in a car crash in Walton County. Ashley Allen was a mere 24 years old, and our heart and love go out to him and his entire family. Sadly, the driver of the other vehicle, a 17 year old child was killed as well. I want to thank Cpl Moremen of GSP for his compassion yesterday as well as the entire Walton County Sheriff's Office and Coroner's Office for their kindness and understanding as well. Steven served for many years with the Rockdale Sheriff's Office and is a valued and loved member of our tribe here in Oconee County.. Two more lives taken at such a young age. Breaks my heart.

It begins...

Those registered sex offenders in the county whose terms and conditions allowed it were required to report to and stay at the probation office this evening, Our patrol deputies paid a visit to say "howdy" to all of the others just so they wouldn't be lonely tonight.

Y'all best behave. The Sheriff is on patrol this evening.

Thanks to Living Word Academy for the treats.

HWY 53 in front of Dove Creek Elementary School will be down to one lane due to paving.

Those of you following the Oconee County GA Government page are probably aware of several road construction advisories. Those of you not following the page must want to be stuck in traffic.

The city of Watkinsville now has a Facebook page.

As a reminder, you can find all of the local ordinances for Oconee County at the Municode web page. These are the county ordinances. Check with your respective municipality if you live within city limits. The one we get asked about most frequently is the noise ordinance. It is only in effect between 11:00PM and 7:00AM. We do not write the ordinances. Any concerns you have regarding the ordinances should be directed to the Board of Commissioners.

A bus from another county, packed with students no less, broke down here in Oconee yesterday. One of our deputies stopped to help, and he called the Oconee County Schools Bus Barn. They came quickly to help get the bus back on its way. Thanks!!

We are thankful this morning that no one at Benson's Bakery was injured, and that all our firefighters are safe.
