Blackshear Police Department News

Congratulations to our BPD chaplain Kevin Grissom on being awarded the Leona Dixon Bright Spot award by the Pierce County Chamber of Commerce. Kevin is definitely a bright spot in our department and community.

Pierce County State Court scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed. Court will be held January 18, 2018.

HWY 84 Bridge @ Ware Co has reopened. Please drive slow and use extreme caution.

Everyone please stay off of the roads unless necessary. Most bridges in Pierce county are iced and we have received multiple reports of black ice on roadways. Extreme caution for those who must drive is advised.

Thanks to some very generous donations from within our community, we were able to participate in Shop with a Cop Program for the 3rd year in a row. We are so happy and humbled to be able to help some local children. Several officers were paired up with a child and was able to take them shopping for Christmas. After our shopping adventures the kids were treated to lunch and ice cream cones. Thank you to the fine men of the FBC Blackshear men’s ministry for purchasing hams/turkeys for all of the Pierce County first responders!

Please have a fun and very safe night.

Earlier today, we posted pictures of two individuals asking for your help in identifying them. Both were positively identified within an hour. We want to thank each of you for sharing our post and for all of the messages and phone calls.

We would like to make the community (especially parents) aware that there will be a lot of activity around Pierce County Middle School this evening and in the morning (Monday evening and Tuesday morning). If you hear sirens, please rest assured that everything is fine. The police department, fire department, EMS and possibly Air Evac will be participating in Teen Maze. This is an educational based emergency scenario for all PCMS 8th graders. The police, fire and EMS will stage up down from the school for a short period of time and then respond to PCMS for the scenario in emergency mode, meaning full lights and sirens. This will all be a part of the presentation for Teen Maze. This evenings presentation is open to the community. It starts at 5 pm in the lunchroom of the middle school.

***************ROAD CLOSURE**************** Starting tonight at 7pm, Main St. (Hwy 121) will be closed for the GDOT Resurfacing Project. The closure will be every night for approximately the next 3 nights. The closure will extend from Gilmore St. to GA Hwy 84 each night. Gilmore St. and Azalea St. will be available for through traffic.

*********************ATTENTION************************ We are again warning citizens to please be extra cautious and lock your vehicles. We have been busy taking reports for burglarized autos that have occurred through the last couple of nights. A multitude of items are being reported as stolen; credit cards, bank cards, wallets, cash, tools, and even firearms. PLEASE be extra vigilant and lock up your vehicle every time you get out of it. Lock all doors and toolboxes, but remember locking your vehicle is not enough. Do not leave any items of value in the vehicle and especially do not leave items in plain sight. Although most of these break-ins occur through the night, it is not uncommon to have these entering autos happen in broad daylight. Please help us, help you. Be a good neighbor and keep an eye out in your neighborhood. Call and report any suspicious activity. If you see any suspicious person(s) call 911 and report them.

Our first responders are prepared and ready to respond as Irma approaches. Call if you need us. Please stay safe through the storm.

Here is a reminder of the routes we are asking parents/students take to PCHS tomorrow. GDOT message boards have been put near intersections you will most likely turn. Everyone please take extra precautions and give yourself plenty of time.

Here is the suggested route for school traffic starting Monday. We recommend that drivers avoid turning left from Hwy 84 onto New School Rd or Knox Rd because they do not have left turn lanes. The only intersection on Hwy 84 that will have officers directing traffic will be at County Farm Rd.
