Citizens of Putnam County, Many of you have been following the expected demolition of the remaining smoke stack at Plant Branch. The demolition was scheduled for tomorrow morning, but has been postponed again. We do not have a future date as of this time of when the demolition will take place. When we know, we will try to give as much advance notice as possible.

Thanks to Debbie and David Hester for stopping to help this baby Osprey on Hwy. 44, that had most likely fallen out of the nest and been struck by a vehicle. Unfortunately, when I got him back to the office to await the arrival of DNR to pick him up, he passed away. We tried, RIP. - Lt. Tracey A. Bowen

Does anyone recognize this lady? She picked up a dog from Goodwill on Lake Oconee a few weeks ago that had just showed up there. The owners of the dog have been located and I'm trying to find this lady to reunite the dog with it's rightful owners. The woman was driving what appears to be a 4 door Toyota Tundra or Tacoma, burgundy in color. If you know this woman, please inbox here or e-mail me at ltbowen@putnamcountysheriff.org. You can also go to our website and report an anonymous tip or call me at the office 706-485-8557. Please share. Thank you. - Lt. Tracey A. Bowen

Just a reminder to all Putnam County citizens regarding phone scams. We have had some residents receiving phone calls again from individuals claiming that they are with the IRS. The caller usually informs the resident that they are behind on taxes that they owe (even if you know that you don't owe anything) and that if you don't pay it, federal agents will be at your house within the hour to arrest you. The caller will then give you a set of instructions to follow to wire the money to the "IRS." THIS IS A SCAM! It is meant to scare you and intimidate you into sending the money and if you do so, once your money is sent, we will not be able to get your money back for you, it is gone. If you receive a call such as this and you do owe the IRS money for some reason, call the IRS office in Atlanta at 1-800-829-1040 and get confirmation from them. The IRS does not operate in this manner, so please do not send these scammers any money. Have a great weekend! - Lt. Tracey A. Bowen

We have been experiencing a rash of thefts of motorcycles, four wheelers and ATV's such as mules and kubotas within the last two weeks. The locations have been on Sparta Hwy., Parks Rd. and Rose Creek Rd. off of Highway 129 (Gray Rd.). The thefts have occurred regardless of whether or not a key was left in it. It appears as though a truck, possibly a dually truck, is used to facilitate the theft of the motorcycle, etc. We also had one case in which the suspects rammed through a metal gate in the early morning hours to enter the property only to find that there was a residence located on the property. The suspects were scared off by the homeowner but it is possible that they were looking to steal a four wheeler located on the property. This incident also occurred on Sparta Hwy. If you see any suspicious activity of this nature, please contact us at 706-485-8557. If you have any information regarding the recent thefts, please contact the Detective's Division using the same phone number. Lt. Tracey A. Bowen
