HALLOWEEN ON FRONT STREET A reminder that there will be road closures along Front Street during the event. Front Street will be closed between Prison Street and Baker Street starting at 3:30 p.m. Any cars remaining will be towed. All intersecting streets between Front Street and Wainee Street will also be closed. Road closures will re-open by midnight. Motorists should anticipate slow-moving traffic around Lahaina town and be aware of an increase in pedestrian traffic. Please be patient and drive safely.
ROAD CLOSURE Waikoloa and Ulaino in Hana town is closed to traffic due to flooding over the roadway. Motorists should avoid the area until the flooding subsides.

GO PINK! CAMPAIGN Congratulations to the Hana High School Girls Volleyball team for qualifying for this year's state tournament. The team wore Maui Police Department Go Pink! shirts as a show of community support for the campaign. All proceeds from the Go Pink! campaign go to the Pacific Cancer Foundation to be used for research and services. Go Pink! shirts are for sale at all Maui County Police Stations during the month of October, which has been designated Cancer Awareness Month. Thank you girls for your support!

WHITE HOUSE STATE LEADERSHIP DAY Washingon D.C.- On Tuesday, October 23, 2018, Chief Tivoli Faaumu was part of the Hawaii contingent invited to attend the White House State Leadership Day event for the states of Hawaii, California and Alaska. Joining Chief Faaumu were Maui County Council Member Elle Cochran and Hawaii State Representative Bob McDermott. PHONE SCAM The Maui Police Department is warning the public about a recent phone scam. A resident in Lahaina reported receiving a phone call from an unknown male selling Google play cards. While the resident was on the phone they received another call from a female threatening to call the police if they didn't comply. The caller i.d. showed the number (808)661-4441, which is the direct number to the Lahaina Police Station. This number is spoofed as any outgoing calls from the Lahaina Police Station will NOT show up as (808)661-4441. That number is reserved for outside callers trying to call in. Please do not answer any calls coming from that number. Thank you.

NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH Lahaina, Maui- On Saturday, September 29. 2018, officers from the Maui Police Department joined other community members in the annual "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event that took place at the Lahaina Cannery Mall. This event kicked-off October's National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Officers took a pledge to help stop domestic violence and walked a mile while wearing fashionable women's high heeled shoes. During the month of October, there will be several events throughout the county in an effort to bring awareness about domestic violence in our communities.
ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE@09:55 a.m. Roadway is opened. Hana Highway at mile-marker 23 is closed in both directions due to a tree across both lanes. State Highway crews are responding. They estimate the road to be closed for at least two hours while they work to remove the tree. Motorists should plan accordingly.
MAUI POLICE DEPARTMENT GRADUATES NEWEST RECRUIT CLASS Kahului, Maui- On Friday, September 28, 2018, a commencement was held at the Maui Beach Hotel’s Elleair Ballroom for the graduates of the Maui Police Department’s 87th Recruit Class. The five graduating members of the class were sworn in as police officers and took their oath of office. The graduates were: Randen Abafo, Iokepa Albino-Shamblin, Codie Chong, Lean Jeffrey Gumboc and Mitchell Navarro. Lean Jeffrey Gumboc was selected as the Outstanding Recruit. Recruits successfully completed eight months of intense classroom and functional skills training to include Criminal Law, Report Writing, Firearms Training, Physical Training and Emergency Vehicle Operations. Congratulations to the our newest police officers and their families!
ROADWAY FLOODING UPDATE @6:48 p.m. Roadway is completely open. Drivers continue to use due care as traffic is slowly flowing. Thank you. UPDATE @2 p.m. There is one portion in Olowalu (near the paintball field) of the roadway where the flooding continues to be a problem. Police continue to contra-flow the traffic. State Highway crews continue to assess the situation. Unknown how long the roadway will be affected. Drivers please continue to be patient. Honoapiilani Highway in Lahaina is being contra-flowed between Olowalu and the intersection with Kai Hele Ku due to flooding over the roadway. Traffic is slow-moving as a result. Please drive safely and patiently as State Highways is working to help alleviate the problem. If you do not have to drive to Lahaina, please stay of the roadway until it opens up again. Do not call Police Dispatch or 911 for traffic updates. Thank you for your assistance.
PHONE SERVICE INTERRUPTION IN HANA UPDATE @12:52 p.m. Per Hawaiian Telcom, the issue has been resolved and normal phone service has returned. Thank you for your cooperation. Per Hawaiian Telcom, customers with landline service are only able to call within Hana. They are not able to receive or make calls outside of Hana, including 911. Anyone needing police assistance is asked to call (808)248-8311. Cell phone service is not affected as this is a Hawaiian Telcom issue. Technicians are on scene trying to restore service. Unknown how much longer service will be affected.

MISSING PERSON UPDATE 09/21/18: Stephen Kramar has been located. The family has been notifed. Thank you for all your assistance. The Maui Police Department is asking for assistance in locating Stephen Kramar, who was reported missing on September 17, 2018. Kramar was last seen on September 17, 2018 leaving the Wavecrest Resort in Kaunakakai, Molokai. Kramar was returning from a hike later in the day but never made it back. Stephen Kramar is described as a 27 year old male, about 6' tall, 160 lbs. with brown hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Stephen Kramar is asked to call police at (808)244-6400 or 911 in an emergency.
