10-25-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Laurel Curtis McDonald, age 33 of Exira, on Monday October 22nd at approximately 6:30pm. McDonald was charged with 3 counts of child endangerment stemming from an investigation in the 2000 blk of 290th St. McDonald was released the following day after his appearance before the magistrate. Skielynn Laverne Stephens, age 32 of Audubon, was charged on Thursday October 25th. Stephens was charged with 17 counts of Violation of a No Contact Order. She is currently in the Audubon County Jail serving time on a unrelated case. Sheriff Todd W. ATTENTION AUDUBON COUNTY RESIDENTS: The Sheriff’s Department would like to remind all residents of Audubon County that there is an increase in farm equipment and construction vehicles traveling the roadways of Audubon County. This is due to the Fall Harvest Season and the construction of the wind turbine farms. During this busy time of the year, we urge farmers and motorists to share the responsibility in keeping our roads safe. To ensure a safe and successful harvest and construction season we ask all those traveling the roadways to: share the roadway; be alert, courteous, and patient; allow plenty of time to get to your destination; and obey all traffic laws. 10-15-2018 PRESS RELEASE James Aaron Humlicek, age 30 of Exira, was arrested on September 21st at approximately 1:35pm for an outstanding arrest warrant for a Violation of Probation charge. He completed his time at the Audubon County Jail and was released on October 13th. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Christopher Michael Paulsen, age 19 of Exira, on Saturday September 29th. Paulsen was charged with OWI-1st Offense and Speeding. The charge stems from a traffic stop on 310th St., at approximately 3:20am. Paulsen posted bond and was released. Jay Joseph Ratigan, age 43 of Exira, was arrested on October 4th at approximately 11:52pm for an outstanding arrest warrant for a Violation of Probation charge. He was held at the Audubon County Jail until the following evening when he posted bond and was released. Ian Lee Leib, age 37 of Kimballton, was arrested on October 9th at approximately 3:48pm on an outstanding arrest warrant for Failure to Appear charge. He is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail on a $5,000.00 bond. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department also arrested Kaz Ryan Cozad, age 24 of Audubon, on Tuesday October 9th. Cozad was charged with OWI-1st Offense. The charge stems from a traffic stop on 190th east of Audubon, at approximately 11:00pm. He was released the following day after an appearance before the magistrate. Lisa Marie Hall, age 31 of Carroll, was arrested on October 10th at approximately 2:20am. Hall was charged with Driving under the Influence, Child Endangerment-Causing Bodily Injury, Child Endangerment, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The arrest stems from an investigation into a single vehicle accident at 120th & Oriole in Audubon County. She was held in the Audubon County Jail until she posted an $8,300.00 bond. Chandler Joel Behrens, age 19 of Audubon, turned himself in on October 12th at approximately 10:05am for an outstanding arrest warrant for a Violation of Probation charge. He was released later in the day on his own recognizance. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Jamie Renea Clausen, age 42 of Audubon, on October 13th at approximately 4:22am. She was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant for a Violation of Probation charge. Clausen is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail on a $5,000.00 bond. Ryan Mark Biensen, age 35 of Audubon, was arrested on October 15th at approximately 12:50pm. He was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant for a Failure to Appear charge. He’s currently being held in the Audubon County Jail on a $5,000.00 bond. Sheriff Todd W. 9-17-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Rachel Renae Havens, age 21 of West Des Moines, on Friday September 7th. Havens was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of marijuana-2nd offense. Devon Lee Fuller, age 18 of Adair, was also arrested at the same incident on Friday September 7th. Fuller was charged with Possession of Marijuana- 1st offense. The charges stem from an investigation into a suspicious vehicle in the 3000 blk of 350th St. Both Havens and Fuller were released after posting bond. Sheriff Todd W. 9-4-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Michael Gene Bland, age 44 of Council Bluffs, on Sunday September 2nd. Bland was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The charges stem from a traffic stop on Highway 71, outside of Exira, at approximately 2:46am. Axel, Audubon County K-9, indicated to the presence of the odor of a narcotic(s) on the vehicle. Bland posted bond and was released. Bland was arrested again on September 3rd, at approximately 7:25pm for additional charges stemming from the traffic stop the previous morning. Bland was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance-marijuana 2nd offense, Interference with official acts, carrying weapons and depositing or throwing litter on highway. Axel, located marijuana that Bland attempted to hide along the highway. Bland is currently in the Audubon County Jail awaiting his appearance before the magistrate. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department also arrested Brandon William Henderson, age 21, of Audubon, on 2 outstanding court ordered jail time warrants. In the process of his arrest, he has also been charged with possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently in the Audubon County Jail on a $5,000 bond. Sheriff Todd W. 8-31-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Skyielynn Laverne Stephens, age 32 of Audubon, on Thursday August 30th at approximately 11:02pm. Stephens has been charged with Possession of Marijuana- 3rd or subsequent offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Driving While Suspended. The charges stem from a traffic stop on Highway 44, outside of Kimballton. Axel, Audubon County K-9, indicated to the presence of the odor of a narcotic(s). Stephens is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail on a $2,000 bond following her appearance in front of the Magistrate. Sheriff Todd W. 8-27-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Zackary Tyler Scott, age 24 of Mason City, on Saturday August 25th at approximately 12:31am. Scott has been charged with Possession with Intent-methamphetamine, Possession with Intent-marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The charges stem from a motorist assist on Pheasant Ave. Axel, Audubon County K-9, indicated to the presence of the odor of a narcotic(s). Scott is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail on a $100,300.00 bond following his appearance in front of the Magistrate. Sheriff Todd W. 8-23-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Tammy Thompson, age 49, of Exira. Thompson has been charged with: Ongoing Criminal Conduct- Class B Felony Theft 1st- Class C felony (theft of more than $10,000 in value), Fraudulent Practice 1st- Class C felony (money or value of property exceeds $10,000) Fraudulent Use of Credit Card- Class D felony (more than $1,000 but no more than $10,000) The charges stem from an investigation initiated by Kimballton Mayor Millette Shores after receiving information from Kimballton’s accounting software that there may be misappropriated funds within the city’s accounts. Mayor Shores reviewed financial statements from their bank and also reviewed electronic documentation of the city’s financial standing. Mayor Shores deemed a misappropriation had occurred and, after receiving guidance from the City Attorney, contacted the State Auditors to assist in the investigation. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office was also asked to assist in the investigation. Following the conclusion of the State Auditor’s audit, there was a meeting involving the City Attorney, City Council, and the Audubon County Sheriff’s Department. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department concluded their investigation and then filed criminal charges. The time frame of the misappropriation spans from May 1, 2014 to August 31, 2017. 8-22-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Shawn Leroy Schmidt, age 33 of Kimballton, on August 16, 2018 on an outstanding warrant for Violation of Probation. 8-8-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Amanda Lynn Thompson, age 37 of Audubon, on July 16, 2018 on an outstanding warrant for Violation of Probation. She is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail. Laura Lynn Bovill, age 25 of Omaha, was arrested on July 19th, on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for possession of marijuana. She was held in the Audubon County Jail until she was seen in District Court and was released. Jennifer Sue Schmitz, age 34, of Carroll, was arrested on July 22nd, for Operating while Intoxicated, 1st offense. She was cited and released. Maisie Sheryl Williams, age 24 of Atlantic, was arrested on July 23rd on an outstanding warrant for possession of meth. She is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail. Juston Phillip Travis, age 29, of Council Bluffs, was arrested on August 2nd, on an outstanding warrant for violation of probation. He is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail. 7-17-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Trevor Anthony Jon Hubbard, age 20, of Des Moines on Sunday June 17th on an outstanding arrest warrant for Theft 2nd degree and Arson 2nd degree. The charges stem from an investigation into a motor vehicle theft and arson in January 2017. Amanda Lynn Thompson, age 37 of Audubon, was arrested on June 28th on an outstanding warrant for violation of probation. She was held in the Audubon County Jail until she was posted bond and was released. Cole Allen Bruns, age 19, of Elk Horn, was arrested on June 30th for Operating While Intoxicated. He was released the following day on his own recognizance. James Aaron Humlicek, age 30, of Exira, was arrested on July 7th for disorderly conduct. He was released later in the day on his own recognizance. Timothy Dethleff Asmus, age 18, of Audubon, was arrested on July 9th for Violation of Probation. He is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail on a $10,000 bond. Bobby Lee Stevens, age 37, of Audubon, was arrested on July 10th for Operating While Intoxicated. He was released the following day after an appearance before the magistrate. Aaron Lee Ihnken, age 31, of Atlantic, turned himself in on July 16th for an outstanding arrest warrant for Failure to Appear on a Violation of Probation charge. 6-12-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Dylan Ron Drake, age 37, of Exira on Thursday June 7th on an arrest warrant for 2 charges of Sex Offender Registry violations. He was seen by the magistrate and is currently being held on a $5,000 bond. Aaron Lee Ihnken, age 31, of Atlantic was arrested on June 9th for Operating While Intoxicated and Operating without Owner’s Consent. He was released following an appearance with the magistrate. Melinda Kay See, age 21, was arrested on June 10th on an outstanding warrant from Pottawattamie County. She was held in the Audubon County Jail until she was transferred to the Pottawattamie County Jail. David Lee Nelson, age 53, of Exira was arrested on June 11th for 2 counts of Reckless Use of Firearm, 2 counts of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and 10 counts of Shooting over water, highway or railroad. He posted a cash bond and was released. Heather Lynn Lund, age 48, of Exira was arrested on June 11th for Interference with Official Acts, 2 counts of accessory to a misdemeanor and 2 counts of accessory to a felony. She posted a cash bond and was released. Andrew Malloy, age 21, of Audubon was arrested June 12th on two outstanding warrants for violation of probation. He appeared before the magistrate and is currently being held on a $20,000 bond. Sheriff Todd W. 6-7-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Robert Lee Crawley, age 32, of Hamlin on Friday May 25, 2018. Crawley was charged with 2 counts of Violation of Sex Offender Registry and 5 counts of Felon in possession of a firearm. He saw the magistrate and was held until he later posted bond. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Angela Dawn Foust, age 31, of Exira on Monday June 4th on an outstanding warrant for possession of a controlled substance. She saw the magistrate, was held and later bonded out. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department also arrested Lisa Marie Riskowski, age 31, of Exira on Monday June 4th on an outstanding warrant for violation of probation. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office sponsored the Annual Bicycle Rodeo for the area 3rd grade students on May 4th (for Exira-EHK) and May 11th (for Audubon). The Bicycle Rodeo consists of a Fix-It Station and seven obstacles to maneuver their bikes through. The Fix-It Station is where the students get their chains, brakes, seats, and handlebars inspected and adjusted as needed. The other seven obstacles help students learn proper bicycle safety and handling. Each student received a new helmet prior to beginning the course. The cost of the new helmets were covered by past RAGBRAI bicycle funds, private donations, and a donation from the local Farm Bureau agency. The Sheriff’s Office had several volunteers from the area communities who helped make both Rodeo’s a success.

4-16-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested JeenLee Nielsen, age 47, of Exira on Monday May 14, 2018. JeenLee has been charged with Ongoing Criminal Conduct- Unlawful Activity, Theft 1st, Fraudulent Practice 1st, Fraudulent Practice 2nd, and 2 counts of Forgery. The charges stem from an investigation from her previous employment. She saw a District Judge and was released that afternoon. Sheriff Todd W. We have been informed that there is a new scam targeting our area. Individuals are providing their banking and online information for checks to be deposited in their accounts and then the next day they are to transfer the money to someone else. We have seen similar scams be advertised as a "get rich quick" scheme. If you feel you have been scammed, please talk to your banking institution and law enforcement immediately. It is very important to share all the information you have received and provided, even though the scammers may have told you not to or have provided you with a story to use if asked. This is in the best interest of helping you and safeguarding other potential victims. Remember if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't.

4-4-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested JeenLee Nielsen, age 47, of Exira on Saturday March 31, 2018. JeenLee has been charged with OWI 2nd Offense. JeenLee posted a $2000 bond and was released. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department also arrested Matthew Nielsen, age 44, of Exira on Saturday March 31, 2018. Matthew has been charged with Public Intoxication. He posted a $300 bond and was released. Both arrests stem from a traffic stop in Exira. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Spencer Biggs, age 24, of Atlantic on Monday April 2, 2018. Spencer has been charged with OWI 1st offense. The charges stem from a traffic stop on March 10, 2018. Spencer posted a $1000 bond and was released. On April 3, 2018, the Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Scott Nathaniel Belew, age 27, of Audubon for Driving While Suspended. He is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail on a $566.25 bond, awaiting an appearance before the magistrate. Sheriff Todd W. 3-26-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department arrested Sarah Chitty, age 32, of Harlan on Saturday March 24, 2018 around 6:23 pm on charges for Possession of Marijuana 2nd offense and several traffic citations. She was seen by the magistrate and was released on her own recognizance. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department also arrested Ian Leib, age 37, of Council Bluffs on Saturday March 24, 2018. Ian has been charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver under 5 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. Ian was seen by the magistrate and is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail on a $10,000 bond. Both arrests stem from a traffic stop in Kimballton in which K-9 Axel alerted to the presence of an odor of a narcotic. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department also assisted in the traffic stop. 3-9-2018 PRESS RELEASE The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office arrested Mitchell Thompson, age 53, of Atlantic on Tuesday March 6, 2018 around 11:36 am on an outstanding warrant for Violation of Probation. He was arrested in Cass County and then transported to Audubon County. He is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail awaiting an appearance before the District Judge. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brady Dennis-Drees, age 22, of Exira on Friday March 9, 2018 around 1:47 am. He has been charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Cannabidoil (THC Wax). The charges stem into the investigation of a suspicious vehicle in which K-9 Axel alerted to the presence of the odor of a narcotic. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office arrested Justin Cannon, age 24, of Des Moines on Friday March 9, 2018 around 12:30 pm on an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear. He was arrested in Polk County and then transported to Audubon County. He is currently being held in the Audubon County Jail awaiting an appearance before the District Judge. Sheriff Todd W.
