We invite everyone who has questions, opinions, or concerns about the proposed new jail to get involved and attend the next Jail Advisory Committee meeting on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 @ 6:00 pm. We also suggest that you take a few minutes to read the FAQ sheet prior to attending the meeting. Shares are welcomed and appreciated. https://www.co.jackson.ia.us/Jail%20Updates/FAQ'S.pdf
Jackson County currently has 22 inmates in the Jackson County Jail. We have been spending in excess of $650 per day in housing inmates in various counties and as far as Muscatine. This equates to $19500/month and $234,000/year. These costs are housing alone and does not include transportation/medical and salaries. If the Jackson County Jail were to be closed down, the daily housing costs for the current inmates at 22 would be $1,430/day; $42,900/month and $514,800/year. This is one of the ways that the Sheriff’s Office plans on keeping the public informed and updated on the status of the jail and the need for a much larger Sheriff’s Office and Jail.
